INSPECTION AFTER REMOVAL

Camshaft Runout

1.

Put V-block on a precise flat table, and support No. 2 and 4 journal of camshaft.

CAUTION:

Never support No. 1 journal (on the side of camshaft
sprocket) because it has a different diameter from the other
four locations.

2.

Set dial indicator (A) vertically to No. 3 journal.

3.

Turn camshaft to one direction with hands, and measure the
camshaft runout on dial indicator. (Total indicator reading)

4.

If it exceeds the limit, replace camshaft.

Camshaft Cam Height

1.

Measure the camshaft cam height with a micrometer (A).

2.

If it exceeds the limit, replace camshaft.

WARNING:

• Situate vehicle on a flat and solid surface.
• Place chocks at front and back of rear wheels.
• For engines not equipped with engine slingers, attach proper slingers and bolts described in PARTS

CATALOG.

• If items or work required are not covered by the engine main body section, refer to the applicable

sections.

• Always use the support point specified for lifting.
• Use either 2-pole lift type or separate type lift as best you can. If board-on type is used for unavoid-

able reasons, support at the rear axle jacking point with transmission jack or similar tool before
starting work, in preparation for the backward shift of center of gravity.

• For supporting points for lifting and jacking point at rear axle, refer to

GI-33, "Garage Jack and

Safety Stand and 2-Pole Lift"

or

GI-34, "Board-On Lift"

.
