INSPECTION AFTER INSTALLATION

• Before starting engine, check oil/fluid levels including engine coolant and engine oil. If less than required

quantity, fill to the specified level. Refer to

MA-11, "Fluids and Lubricants"

.

• Use procedure below to check for fuel leaks.

• Turn ignition switch ON (with engine stopped). With fuel pressure applied to fuel piping, check for fuel leaks

at connection points.

• Start engine. With engine speed increased, check again for fuel leaks at connection points.

• Run engine to check for unusual noise and vibration.

NOTE:

If hydraulic pressure inside timing chain tensioner drops after removal and installation, slack in the guide

may generate a pounding noise during and just after engine start. However, this is normal. Noise will stop

after hydraulic pressure rises.

• Warm up engine thoroughly to make sure there are no leaks of fuel, exhaust gas, or any oils/fluids including

engine oil and engine coolant.

• Bleed air from passages in lines and hoses, such as in cooling system.

• After cooling down engine, again check oil/fluid levels including engine oil and engine coolant. Refill to spec-

ified level, if necessary.

UNIT DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY

ENGINE STAND SETTING

Setting

INFOID:0000000011279979

NOTE:

Explained here is how to disassemble with engine stand supporting transaxle surface. When using a different

type of engine stand, note difference in steps, etc.
1. Remove engine and transaxle assembly from vehicle, and separate transaxle from engine. Refer to

EM-

86, "Exploded View"

.

2. Install engine to engine stand with the following procedure:
a. Remove drive plate.

• Secure drive plate (1) using suitable tool (A) and remove bolts

using suitable tool.

b. Remove the reinforcement plate. Refer to

EM-97, "Exploded View"

.

c.

Remove pilot converter (1) from the rear end of the crankshaft.

Use suitable tool (A), if necessary.

d. Lift the engine with a hoist to install it onto widely used engine stand.

CAUTION:

• Use the engine stand that has a load capacity [approximately 135 kg (298 lb) or more] large

enough for supporting the engine weight.

• If the load capacity of stand is not adequate, remove the following parts beforehand to reduce the poten-

tial risk of overturning stand.

- Intake manifold: Refer to

EM-29, "Removal and Installation"

.

- Exhaust manifold: Refer to

EM-32, "Removal and Installation"

.

- Rocker cover: Refer to

EM-42, "Removal and Installation"

.

NOTE:

The figure shows an example of widely used engine stand (A)

that can support mating surface of transaxle with drive plate

removed.

CAUTION:

Before removing the hanging chains, check the engine

stand is stable and there is no risk of overturning.
