1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.

DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART

Check the following.

• Check camshaft position sensor (PHASE) and circuit. Refer to

EC-262, "Component Description"

.

• Check crankshaft position sensor (POS) and circuit. Refer to

EC-258, "Component Description"

.

OK or NG

OK

>> GO TO 9.

NG

>> 1. Repair or replace.

2. GO TO 4.

CHECK ECM FUNCTION

1. Substitute with a non-malfunctioning ECM to check ECM function. (ECM may be the cause of the incident,

although this is rare.)

2. Perform initialization of NVIS (NATS) system and registration of all NVIS (NATS) ignition key IDs. Refer to

EC-121, "Procedure After Replacing ECM"

.

>> GO TO 4.

CHECK IGNITION TIMING

1. Run engine at idle.

2. Check ignition timing with a timing light. Refer to

EC-121, "Idle

Speed and Ignition Timing Check"

OK or NG

OK

>> GO TO 19.

PERFORM ACCELERATOR PEDAL RELEASED POSITION LEARNING

1. Stop engine.

>> 1. Follow the instruction of Idle Air Volume Learning.

CHECK TARGET IDLE SPEED AGAIN

With CONSULT

1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.

2. Read idle speed in “DATA MONITOR” mode with CONSULT. Refer to

EC-121, "Idle Speed and Ignition

Timing Check"

Without CONSULT

1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.

2. Check idle speed. Refer to

EC-121, "Idle Speed and Ignition Timing Check"

.

OK or NG

OK

>> GO TO 15.

CHECK IGNITION TIMING AGAIN

1. Run engine at idle.

CHECK TIMING CHAIN INSTALLATION

Check timing chain installation. Refer to

IGNITION TIMING

Any of following two methods may be used.
1. Attach timing light to loop wire as shown.

2. Check ignition timing.

When replacing ECM, the following procedure must be performed. (For details, refer to OPERATION PROCE-

DURE.)

PROGRAMMING OPERATION

NOTE:

After replacing with a blank ECM, programming is required to write ECM information. Be sure to follow the pro-

cedure to perform the programming.

CHECK ECM PART NUMBER

Check ECM part number to see whether it is blank ECM or not.

NOTE:

• Part number of blank ECM is 23703 -

×××××.

• Check the part number when ordering ECM or with the one included in the label on the container box.
Is the ECM a blank ECM?

YES

>> GO TO 2.

NO

>> GO TO 4.

SAVE ECM PART NUMBER

Read out the part number from the old ECM and save the number, following the programming instructions.

Refer to “CONSULT Operation Instruction”.

NOTE:

• The ECM part number is saved in CONSULT.

• Even when ECM part number is not saved in CONSULT, go to 3.

>> GO TO 3.

3.

PERFORM ECM PROGRAMMING

After replacing ECM, perform the ECM programming. Refer to “CONSULT Operation Instruction”.

NOTE:

During programming, maintain the following conditions:

• Ignition switch: ON

• Electric load: OFF

• Brake pedal: Not depressed

• Battery voltage: 12 – 13.5 V (Be sure to check the value of battery voltage by selecting “BATTERY VOLT” in

“Data monitor” of CONSULT.)

>> GO TO 5.

REPLACE ECM

Replace ECM.

>> GO TO 5.

PERFORM INITIALIZATION OF NVIS (NATS) SYSTEM AND REGISTRATION OF ALL NVIS (NATS) IGNI-

TION KEY IDS
Perform initialization of NVIS (NATS) system and registration of all NVIS (NATS) ignition key IDs. Refer to

SEC-3, "Work Flow"

.

>> GO TO 6.

6.

PERFORM VIN REGISTRATION

Perform VIN REGISTRATION. Refer to

EC-123, "VIN Registration"

.

>> GO TO 7.

PERFORM ACCELERATOR PEDAL RELEASED POSITION LEARNING

Perform accelerator pedal released position learning. Refer to

EC-123, "Accelerator Pedal Released Position

Learning"
