Diagnostic Notes
The reference numbers below correlate with the circled num-
bers on the Test A.14 flow chart.
1. Obtain DARK BLUE PIN PROBES (Part No. HD-41404-
46) and patch cord from HARNESS CONNECTOR TEST
KIT (Part No. HD-41404A).
1WARNING
Figure A-35. Dark Blue Pin Probes (Part No. HD-41404-46)
Use only gray pin probes from HARNESS CONNECTOR
TEST KIT (Part No. HD-41404A) on small terminals (1-7,
10-23) of ABS Module connector [166B], and dark blue
pin probes on large terminals (8-9, 24-25). Use of the
wrong probes can damage terminals causing insufficient
or excessive current to be passed to solenoid valves
and/or pump, a condition which could cause the ABS to
malfunction, possibly resulting in death or serioius
injury.

Diagnostic Notes
The reference numbers below correlate with the circled num-
bers on the Test A.16 flow chart.
1. The ABS monitors the rotational speed of the wheels
through individual wheel speed sensors. Changing to dif-
ferent diameter wheels or different size tires can alter the
rotational speed. This can upset the calibration of the
ABS and have an adverse effect on its ability to detect
and prevent lockups.

ABS MODULE
Removal
NOTE
The ABS module is located under the right side saddlebag
and is rubber mounted to a bracket fastened to the saddlebag
support rail. The bottom foward part of the saddlebag is
recessed to accommodate the ABS module. See Figure A-
41.
1.
Remove right side saddlebag. For best results, move
saddlebag forward slightly before lifting.
9459
2.
Pull orange latch upward to release ABS module con-
nector [166], 25-place Amp. See Figure A-42.

3.
Pull anchor on convoluted tubing of wire harness from
hole in bracket.

4.
Drain brake fluid. See DRAINING/FILLING/BLEEDING
HYDRAULIC BRAKE FLUID in this section. Be prepared
to immediately wipe up any spilled fluid with a damp
cloth. DOT 4 brake fluid can damaged finished surfaces.
5.
Remove two banjo bolts from top of ABS module to
release brake lines to front and rear calipers. Discard
steel/rubber washers. See Figure A-42.
6.
Remove two banjo bolts from inboard side of ABS mod-
ule to release brake lines from front and rear master cyl-
inders. Discard steel/rubber washers.
7.
Remove two socket screws to release bracket (with ABS
module) from weldment on saddlebag support rail.
8.
Remove three 10 mm hex head screws to release ABS
module from bracket.

1WARNING
Be sure there is sufficient clearance between the shock
absorber and the brake line to the rear brake caliper. Any
contact can cause chafing of the brake line during move-
ment of the rear suspension system resulting in fluid
leaks and loss of hydraulic pressure, which could cause
death or serious injury.
7. Add brake fluid and bleed system. See DRAINING/FILL-
ING/BLEEDING HYDRAULIC BRAKE FLUID in this sec-
tion. Be prepared to immediately wipe up any spilled fluid
