(5) Disconnect transmission range sensor (TRS).
(6) Raise vehicle on hoist.
(7) Remove oil pan bolts (Fig. 335).
(8) Remove oil pan (Fig. 336).
(9) Remove oil filter (Fig. 337).
(10) Remove the valve body-to-transaxle case bolts
(Fig. 338).
NOTE: To ease removal of the valve body, turn the
manual valve lever fully clockwise to low or first
gear.

(11) Remove park rod rollers from guide bracket
and remove valve body from transaxle (Fig. 339) (Fig.
340).
(12) Remove underdrive and overdrive accumula-
tor piston and springs (Fig. 341).
CAUTION: The valve body manual shaft pilot may
distort and bind the manual valve if the valve body
is mishandled or dropped.
DISASSEMBLY
NOTE: If valve body assembly is being recondi-
tioned, the PCM/TCM Quick Learn Procedure must
be performed. (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/ELEC-
TRONIC
CONTROL
MODULES/TRANSMISSION
CONTROL MODULE - STANDARD PROCEDURE)
(1) Remove manual shaft seal (Fig. 342).

(6) Remove Valve Body to Transfer Plate screws
(Fig. 347).
(7) Invert assembly and remove Transfer Plate
(Fig. 348). Beware of loose check balls.
(8) Remove oil screen (Fig. 349).
(9) Remove the overdrive clutch (#5) check valve
(Fig. 350)
(10) Remove separator plate (Fig. 351).
(11) Remove thermal valve (Fig. 352).
(12) Remove check balls (Fig. 353).
NOTE: Tag all valve/spring assemblies for reassem-
bly identification.
