SEAL-FRONT OUTPUT SHAFT
REMOVAL
1. Remove the front propeller shaft. (Refer to 3 - DIF-
FERENTIAL & DRIVELINE/PROPELLER SHAFT -
REMOVAL)
2. Using Holder 6958 (1), remove the front output
shaft flange (2) nut.
3. Using a suitable 2 or 3 jaw puller (1), remove the
front output shaft flange (2).
4. Using a suitable pry tool (1), remove the output
shaft seal (2) from the transfer case (2).

INSTALLATION
1. Install a new front output shaft seal into the transfer
case (2) using Seal Installer MD 998334 (1).
2. Coat both the outer surface and the seal lip with
automatic transmission fluid.
NOTE: Apply a light coating of automatic transmis-
sion fluid to the flange splines prior to installation.
CAUTION: It may be necessary to use a block of
wood and a soft-faced hammer to install the flange
since the flange may have a slight interference fit
to the output shaft.
3. Install the front output shaft flange onto the front
output shaft.
4. Install a new nut onto the output shaft.
5. Using Holder 6958 (1), tighten the front output
shaft flange (2) nut to 250 N·m (185 ft.lbs.).
6. Install the front propeller shaft. (Refer to 3 - DIF-
FERENTIAL & DRIVELINE/PROPELLER SHAFT -
INSTALLATION)
7. Check and correct the transfer case oil level. (Refer to 21 - TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE/TRANS-
FER CASE - MS140/FLUID - STANDARD PROCEDURE)

SEAL-REAR OUTPUT SHAFT
REMOVAL
1. Remove the rear propeller shaft. (Refer to 3 - DIF-
FERENTIAL & DRIVELINE/PROPELLER SHAFT -
REMOVAL)
2. Using Holder 6958 (1), remove the rear output
shaft flange (2) nut.
3. Using a suitable 2 or 3 jaw puller (1), remove the
rear output shaft flange (2).
4. Using a suitable pry tool (1), remove the output
shaft seal (2) from the transfer case (2).

INSTALLATION
1. Install a new rear output shaft seal into the transfer
case (2) using Seal Installer C-3860A (1).
2. Coat both the outer surface and the seal lip with
automatic transmission fluid.
NOTE: Apply a light coating of automatic transmis-
sion fluid to the flange splines prior to installation.

output shaft.
4. Install a new nut onto the output shaft.
