(2) Install electrical connector.
(3) Install 3 fasteners and tighten.
(4) Install air inlet hose and resonator box and air
cleaner top.
(5) Connect the negative battery cable.
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)
The PCM engine control strategy prevents reduced
idle speeds until after the engine operates for 320 km
(200 miles). If the PCM is replaced after 320 km (200
miles) of usage, update the mileage and vehicle iden-
tification number (VIN) in the new PCM. Use the
DRB scan tool to change the millage and VIN in the
PCM. If this step is not done a diagnostic trouble
code (DTC) may be set. Refer to the appropriate Pow-
ertrain Diagnostic Manual and the DRB scan tool.
REMOVAL
To avoid possible voltage spike damage to PCM,
ignition key must be off, and the negative battery
cable must be disconnected before unplugging the
PCM connectors. Note radio programs.
(1) Remove speed control servo and bracket and
reposition out of the way (Fig. 57).
(2) Reposition wiring harness out of the way.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION (Continued)
(3) Remove washer bottle filler neck.
(4) Remove Transmission Control Module (TCM)
reposition out of the way (Fig. 58).
(5) Remove PCM.
(6) Disconnect PCM 2 40-way connector.
INSTALLATION
(1) Attach 2 40-way connector to PCM.
(2) Install PCM. Tighten bolt to 4 N·m (35 in. lbs.)
torque.
(3) Install TCM.
(4) Install washer bottle filler neck.
(5) Reposition wiring harness.
(6) Install speed control servo and bracket and
tighten fasteners.
(7) Connect negative battery cable and reprogram
radio and clock.
(8) Using DRB scan tool, program mileage and
vehicle identification number (VIN) into PCM. Refer
to the DRB scan tool and the appropriate Powertrain
Diagnostic Manual.

UPSTREAM HEATED OXYGEN SENSORS
The engines uses two heated oxygen sensors, one
in each exhaust manifold.
WARNING:
THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD, EXHAUST
PIPES
AND
CATALYTIC
CONVERTER
BECOME
VERY HOT DURING ENGINE OPERATION. ALLOW
ENGINE TO COOL BEFORE REMOVING OXYGEN
SENSOR.
REMOVAL
CAUTION:
When disconnecting the sensor electri-
cal connector, do not pull directly on wire going
into sensor.
(1) Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor electrical
connector.
(2) Use a socket such as Snap-On YA8875 or a
crow foot wrench to remove oxygen sensor (Fig. 59).
INSTALLATION
(1) After removing the sensor, the exhaust mani-
fold threads must be cleaned with an 18 mm X 1.5 +
6E tap. If reusing the original sensor, coat the sensor
threads with an anti-seize compound such as Loctite
771- 64 or equivalent. New sensors have compound
on the threads and do not require an additional coat-
ing. Tighten the sensor to 28 N·m (20 ft. lbs.) torque.
(2) Connect the heated oxygen sensor electrical
connector.

DOWNSTREAM HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR
The O2S are located at the outlet ends of the cat-
alytic converter (Fig. 60).
REMOVAL
WARNING:
THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD, EXHAUST
PIPES
AND
CATALYTIC
CONVERTER
BECOME
VERY HOT DURING ENGINE OPERATION. ALLOW
ENGINE TO COOL BEFORE REMOVING OXYGEN
SENSOR.
(1) Raise and support the vehicle.
(2) Disconnect the wire connector from the O2S.
CAUTION:
When disconnecting the sensor electri-
cal connector, do not pull directly on wire going
into sensor.
(3) Remove
the
O2S.
Snap-On
oxygen
sensor
wrench (number YA 8875) may be used for removal
and installation.
INSTALLATION
Threads of new oxygen sensors are factory coated
with anti-seize compound to aid in removal. DO
NOT add any additional anti-seize compound to
the threads of a new oxygen sensor.
(1) Install the O2S. Tighten to 30 N·m (22 ft. lbs.)
torque.
(2) Connect the O2S wire connector.
(3) Lower the vehicle.
AIR CLEANER
LH vehicles do not use a heated air inlet system.
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) adjusts fuel
injector pulse width and ignition timing to compen-
sate for different ambient temperatures.
The air cleaner attaches to the a bracket on right
inner fender panel (Fig. 61). An opening in the body
panel connects the inlet duct to ambient air.
The air induction system uses a resonator between
the air cleaner and throttle body (Fig. 61).
FILTER ELEMENT REPLACEMENT
(1) Remove air cleaner lid. Lift lid off of air cleaner
housing.
(2) Remove filter element (Fig. 62).
(3) If necessary, clean the inside of the air cleaner
housing.
(4) Install new filter element.
(5) Place lid over air cleaner housing.
