TROUBLE DIAGNOSES FOR SYMPTOMS
6.
CHECK THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT (WITHOUT CONSULT-II)
Without CONSULT-II
1.
Turn ignition switch to “ON” position.
(Do not start engine.)
2.
Check voltage between TCM terminals 41 and 42 while
depressing, and releasing accelerator pedal slowly. (After warm-
ing up engine)

●
Perform TCM input/output signal inspection.
●
If NG, recheck TCM pin terminals for damage or loose connection with harness connector.
COMPONENT INSPECTION
Overdrive Control Switch
●
Check continuity between two terminals 1 and 2.
Voltage:
Fully-closed throttle valve
: Approximately 0.5V
Fully-open throttle valve
: Approximately 4V
(Voltage rises and drops gradually in response to
throttle position)

PNP Switch
1.
Check continuity between terminals 1 and 3 and between termi-
nals 2 and 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 while moving manual shaft through
each position.
2.
If NG, check again with manual control cable disconnected from
manual shaft of A/T assembly. Refer to step 1.
3.
If OK on step 2, adjust manual control cable. Refer to
.
4.
If NG on step 2, remove PNP switch from A/T and check conti-
nuity of PNP switch terminals. Refer to step 1.
5.
If OK on step 4, adjust PNP switch. Refer to
tral Position (PNP) Switch Adjustment"
.
6.
If NG on step 4, replace PNP switch.
Throttle Position Sensor*
*: This sensor means accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor.

CONSULT-II
ECS0099U
After performing
AT-246, "SELF-DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE (WITH CONSULT-II)"
, place check marks for
results on the
AT-258, "DIAGNOSTIC WORKSHEET"
. Reference pages are provided following the items.
NOTICE:
1.
The CONSULT-II electrically displays shift timing and lock-up timing (that is, operation timing of each sole-
noid).
Check for time difference between actual shift timing and the CONSULT-II display. If the difference is
noticeable, mechanical parts (except solenoids, sensors, etc.) may be malfunctioning. Check mechanical
parts using applicable diagnostic procedures.
2.
Shift schedule (which implies gear position) displayed on CONSULT-II and that indicated in Service Man-
ual may differ slightly. This occurs because of the following reasons:
–
Actual shift schedule has more or less tolerance or allowance,
–
Shift schedule indicated in Service Manual refers to the point where shifts start, and
–
Gear position displayed on CONSULT-II indicates the point where shifts are completed.
3.
Shift solenoid valve “A” or “B” is displayed on CONSULT-II at the start of shifting. Gear position is dis-
played upon completion of shifting (which is computed by TCM).
4.
Additional CONSULT-II information can be found in the Operation Manual supplied with the CONSULT-II
unit.
SELF-DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE (WITH CONSULT-II)
1.
Turn on CONSULT-II and touch “A/T” for TCM self-diagnosis.
If A/T is not displayed, check TCM power supply and ground cir-
cuit. Refer to
AT-304, "TCM Terminals and Reference Value"
. If
result is NG, refer to EL-11, “Power Supply Routing”.
2.
Touch “SELF-DIAG RESULTS”.
Display shows malfunction experienced since the last erasing
operation.
CONSULT-II performs “REAL TIME DIAG”.
Also, any malfunction detected while in this mode will be dis-
played at real time.
