DESCRIPTION
The automatic dual-zone climate
control system regulates the air
temperature in the passenger
compartment in two zones: driver
side and passenger side, maintaining
comfort in the passenger compartment
constant and compensating for any
variation in the outside weather
conditions.
The climate control system can
recognise extremely cold (or extremely
hot) conditions in the passenger
compartment and consequently
provide optimal management of the
system performance.
NOTE The reference temperature is
22
°
C for optimal comfort management.
The automatically controlled
parameters and functions are:
air temperature at the driver/front
passenger side vents;
air distribution at the driver/front
passenger side vents;
fan speed (continuous variation of the
air flow);
compressor engagement (for
cooling/dehumidifying the air);
air recirculation.
All of these functions can be adjusted
manually on the system by selecting
one or more functions and changing
their parameters.
Automatic control of the functions will
be suspended and the system will only
override the settings for safety reasons.
Manual settings always take priority
over automatic ones and are stored
until the AUTO button is pressed or
the system itself intervenes for specific
safety reasons.
The amount of air introduced into the
passenger compartment is not affected
by car speed; it is electronically
controlled by a fan.
The air temperature is always
automatically controlled according
to the temperature shown on the
display (except when the system is
off or in certain conditions when the
compressor is not running).
The climate control system allows
the following to be set or adjusted
manually:
driver/ passenger side air
temperature;
fan speed (continuous variation);
air distribution to 7 positions;
compressor enabling;
rapid defrosting/ demisting function;
air recirculation;
heated rear window;
system deactivation.
WARNING The climate control system
detects the passenger compartment
temperature using a mean radiant
temperature sensor located in the
interior rear-view mirror and protected
by a specific cover. Obstructing the
field of view of this sensor with any
object could cause the climate control
system to operate with less than
optimal efficiency.

SWITCHING ON THE CLIMATE
CONTROL SYSTEM
The climate control system can be
switched on in various ways: it is
advisable to press the AUTO button
and turn the knobs to set the desired
temperatures.
In this way the system operates
completely automatically to adjust the
temperature, amount and distribution
of the air introduced into the passenger
compartment. It also manages the air
recirculation function and activation of
the air conditioning compressor.
During fully automatic system
operation, you can change at any time
the set temperatures, air distribution
and fan speed by using the relevant
buttons or knobs: the system will
automatically change its settings to
adjust to the new requirements.
During completely automatic operation
(AUTO), varying the air flow and/or
distribution (which are not displayed)
causes the AUTO function LED to
turn off and the system to operate in
MANUAL mode (displaying both the
flow and distribution requested).
When the compressor is deactivated,
AUTO operation only remains active
if the system can guarantee in-car
comfort. Otherwise, the system
switches to MANUAL mode (the set
temperatures will flash on the display).
The fan speed is the same in all the
zones of the passenger compartment.
AIR TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT
Turn the knobs (A) or (L) either
clockwise or anticlockwise to regulate
the air temperature in the front left
(knob (A)) and right (knob (L)) areas of
the passenger compartment. The
set temperatures are shown on the
displays.
Press the MONO button to align the air
temperature between the two areas.
Turn knob (L) to return to the separate
management of air temperatures in the
two zones.
Turning the knobs completely in one
direction or the other activates the "HI"
(maximum heating) or "LO" (maximum
cooling) functions respectively.
To deactivate these functions, turn
the temperature knob to the desired
temperature.
AIR DISTRIBUTION SELECTION
By pressing buttons H (
/
/ ), it is
possible to set one of the 7 possible air
distributions manually:
Air flow to the windscreen
and front side window air vents to
demist/defrost them.
Airflow at central and side
dashboard vents to ventilate the chest
and the face during the hot season.
Airflow to the front and rear
footwell air vents. This air distribution
setting heats the passenger
compartment most quickly, giving a
prompt sensation of warmth.
Air flow distributed between
footwell air vents (hotter air) and central
and side dashboard air vents (cooler
air). This air distribution setting is useful
in spring and autumn on sunny days.
Air flow distributed between
footwell air vents and windscreen and
front side window defrosting/demisting
air vents. This distribution setting allows
the passenger compartment to be
warmed effectively and prevents the
windows from misting.
Air flow distribution between
windscreen demisting/defrosting air
vents and side and central dashboard
air vents. This allows air to be sent to
the windscreen in conditions of strong
sunlight.
Air flow distribution to all air
vents on the car.
NOTE Air always flows from the side
air vents on the dashboard: however,
it is possible to interrupt the air flow by
operating the wheels located next to
the corresponding air vents.
In AUTO mode, the climate control
system automatically manages air
distribution (the LEDs on buttons (H)
are off).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
31
When set manually, the air distribution
is indicated by the LEDs on the
selected buttons switching on.
In combined function mode the relevant
function is enabled simultaneously
with those already set by pressing
the corresponding button. If a button
whose function is already active is
pressed, the operation is cancelled and
the corresponding LED switches off.
To restore automatic control of the air
distribution after a manual selection,
press the AUTO button.
ADJUSTING THE FAN SPEED
Turn knob (F) to increase/decrease the
fan speed.
The speed is indicated by the LEDs (G)
on knob (F) switching on.
Maximum fan speed = all LEDs on /
minimum fan speed = one LED on.
The fan can only be excluded if the
climate control system compressor has
been switched off by pressing button
D.
WARNING To restore automatic
control of the fan speed after a manual
adjustment, press the AUTO button.
AUTO BUTTON
When the AUTO button is pressed
(LED on button lit) the climate control
system automatically adjusts the
following settings in the corresponding
zones:
the air amount and distribution in the
passenger compartment
climate control system compressor
air circulation cancelling all the
previous manual adjustments.
This is indicated by the LED on the
AUTO button switching on.
If the AUTO button is pressed when the
AUTO LED is on, the system switches
to completely manual mode; it displays
the current flow and distribution status,
which will no longer be managed
automatically.
If at least the air distribution or the fan
speed is adjusted manually, the LED
switches off to indicate that the system
is no longer controlling all functions
automatically.
Deactivating the compressor only
results in deactivating automatic
operation if the system is no longer
able to guarantee comfortable
conditions (which depend on the set
temperature).
WARNING If the system is no longer
able to guarantee the required
temperature in the various zones of
the passenger compartment, the set
temperature value will flash for a few
seconds on the display. To restore
automatic system control after one or
more manual adjustments, press the
AUTO button.
MONO BUTTON
Press the MONO button (LED on
button lit) to align the passenger side
air temperature with that of the driver
side. This function makes temperature
regulation easier when the driver is
travelling alone.
Turn knob L to set the passenger side
temperature and return to separate air
temperature management.
AIR RECIRCULATION
The air recirculation is managed
according to the following operating
mode:
forced activation
(air recirculation
always on): indicated by button (B)
LED turning on;
forced deactivation
(air
recirculation always off, air intake from
the outside), signalled by (B)
LED
turning off.
Forced engagement/disengagement
can be selected by pressing button.
(B)
When the
button is pressed, the
climate control system automatically
activates air recirculation (the LED on
the (B)
button on).
It is still possible to activate outside
air recirculation (LED on the button
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
32
off) and vice versa, by pressing the (B)
button.
In automatic operation mode, inside
air recirculation will be controlled
automatically by the system according
to the outside weather conditions.
WARNING The engagement of the
recirculation system makes it possible
to reach the required heating/cooling
conditions faster. It is, however,
inadvisable to use it on rainy/cold days
as it would considerably increase the
possibility of the windows misting up
inside (especially if the climate control
system is off). When the external
temperature is low, recirculation is
forced off (air drawn from the external)
to prevent the windows misting up.
WARNING It is inadvisable to use
internal air recirculation when the
external temperature is low, since the
windows could mist up rapidly.
CLIMATE CONTROL
COMPRESSOR
Press button (D) to activate/deactivate
the compressor (activation is indicated
by the lit LED on the button).
The system remembers that the
compressor has been turned off, even
after the engine has stopped.
When the compressor is switched off
the system deactivates air recirculation
to prevent the windows from misting
up. In this case, if the system is
capable of maintaining the required
temperature, the AUTO LED does not
switch off.
The temperatures will instead flash
for a few seconds and the AUTO LED
will turn off if the required temperature
cannot be maintained.
To restore automatic control of
compressor engagement, press again
button (C) or press the AUTO button.
With compressor off:
if the external temperature is higher
than the set one, the climate control
system will not be able to satisfy the
request. The temperature values will
then flash on the display for a few
seconds to indicate this;
the fan speed can be reset manually.
With the compressor on and the engine
running, the ventilation cannot be
manually set lower than the minimum
speed (only one LED on).
WARNING With the compressor off, air
cannot be introduced to the passenger
compartment with a temperature
lower than the external temperature.
Moreover, in certain environmental
conditions, windows could mist up
rapidly since the air is not dehumidified.
RAPID WINDOW
DEMISTING/DEFROSTING
(MAX-DEF function)
Press button
to activate (LED on
button on) the windscreen and side
windows demisting/defrosting function.
The climate control system carries out
the following operations:
switches on the air conditioning
compressor when environmental
conditions are suitable;
sets air recirculation off;
sets maximum air temperature (HI) in
both areas;
sets fan speed according to the
engine coolant temperature;
directs air flow to windscreen and
front side windows air vents;
activates the heated rear window;
activates the heated windscreen (for
versions/markets, where provided);
displays the fan speed (LED (G) on).
WARNING The MAX-DEF function
remains on for about 3 minutes from
when the engine coolant reaches the
appropriate temperature.
When the function is activated, the LED
on the AUTO button switches off. With
the function activated the only possible
manual adjustments are adjusting the
fan speed and turning the heated rear
window off.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
33
When the (B), (C), or AUTO buttons are
pressed, the climate control system will
deactivate the MAX-DEF function.
Selecting the footwell/windscreen or
only windscreen distribution activates
the climate control system compressor
(LED on A/C button on) and the air
recirculation is set to "outside air"
intake (LED on
button off).
This logic guarantees optimum
visibility through the windows. It is,
however, always possible to manage
air recirculation and the climate control
system compressor manually.
HEATED REAR WINDOW
DEMISTING/DEFROSTING
Press button
to activate heated
rear window demisting/defrosting.
The effective activation of the function
is indicated by the
warning light on
the instrument panel switching on.
This function turns off automatically
after about 20 minutes or when the
engine is turned off. It is not turned on
automatically the next time the engine
is started.
For versions/markets, where
provided, press the
button to
activate demisting/defrosting of door
mirrors and heated nozzles (for
versions/markets, where provided).
WARNING Do not apply stickers to the
inside of the heated rear window over
the heating filaments, to avoid damage
that might cause them to stop working
properly.
Heated windscreen
(for versions/markets, where provided)
Press button (C)
to activate the
function.
The warning light on the instrument
panel comes on to indicate that it has
been turned on.
On some versions, pressing button
(C) activates demisting/defrosting of
the windscreen (only with the engine
running) and the heated door mirrors
(for versions/markets, where provided).
This function is timed and switches off
automatically after 4 minutes for the
windscreen and 20 minutes for the rear
window and door mirrors. Press button
C again to switch the function off.
To activate the heated windscreen
again press the button (C):
pressing the button once the
warning light switches on in the
instrument panel;
pressing the button twice the
warning light switches on in the
instrument panel (the heated rear
window warning light stays on);
pressing the button a third time the
warning lights
e
switch off.
WARNING Do not apply stickers on
the inside of the rear window over the
heating filaments to avoid damage.
SWITCHING OFF THE CLIMATE
CONTROL SYSTEM
Press button .
With climate control system off:
air recirculation is on, thus isolating
the passenger compartment from the
outside;
the compressor is off;
the fan is off;
the heated rear window can be
activated/deactivated.
WARNING The climate control system
control unit stores the temperatures
set before the system was switched
off and restores them when any button
of the system is pressed (except for
button (D)). To switch on the climate
control system in fully automatic mode
press the AUTO button.
START & STOP
The climate control system manages
the Start&Stop function (engine off
when the car speed is 0 km/h) to
ensure adequate comfort inside the
car.
The Start&Stop system is deactivated
until an adequate comfort level is
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
34
guaranteed inside the compartment;
during these transient steps, the engine
does not switch off even if the car
speed is 0 km/h.
With the Start&Stop system active
(engine off when the car speed is 0
km/h), the climate control system will
request reactivation of the engine if
the temperature inside the passenger
compartment deteriorates rapidly, or
if maximum cooling (“LO”) or quick
demisting (MAX DEF) are requested.
With the Start&Stop system active
(engine off when the car speed is 0
km/h), air flow is reduced in order to
maintain comfortable conditions inside
the passenger compartment for as long
as possible when the climate control
system is in AUTO mode (button LED
on).
When a low air flow is selected,
the climate control system control
unit always activates the Start&Stop
function.
The climate control module attempts
to manage the discomfort caused by
the engine stopping (compressor and
engine coolant pump off), but operation
of the climate control system can be
given priority by pressing the button on
the dashboard to turn the Start&Stop
function off.
WARNING In particularly severe
climate conditions it is recommended
to limit the use of the Start&Stop
function to prevent the compressor
from continuously switching on and
off, with consequent rapid misting of
the windows and accumulation of
humidity with unpleasant smells in the
passenger compartment.
WARNING When the Start&Stop
system is active (engine off when
the car speed is 0 km/h), automatic
recirculation management is turned
off so that it always takes air from
outside. This reduces the probability
of the windows misting up (as the
compressor is off).
ADDITIONAL HEATER
(for versions/markets, where provided)
This device speeds up passenger
compartment warming when it is very
cold.
The additional heater activates
automatically depending on the
environmental conditions and with
engine started. The additional heater
turns off automatically after the required
comfort conditions are achieved.
WARNING The heater only operates if
the external temperature and engine
coolant temperature are low. The
heater will not activate if the battery
voltage is too low.
CLIMATE CONTROL
SYSTEM
The system uses a coolant that is
compatible with the laws in force in the
countries where the car is sold, R134a
or R1234yf.
When charging, only use the gas
indicated on the dedicated plate in the
engine compartment fig. 33.
The use of other coolants affects the
efficiency and condition of the system.
33

With dusk sensor active, with daytime
running lights (DRL) on, it is not
possible to keep the main beam
headlights on constantly; only flashing
is permitted. In these conditions,
the main beam headlights can be
turned on by turning the ring nut to
and pushing the stalk towards the
dashboard; otherwise, wait until the
dusk sensor indicates a low light level
(dipped beam headlights on).
On automatic sensor controlled
deactivation, the dipped beam
headlights are deactivated first,
followed by the side lights a few
seconds later.
WARNING The sensor cannot detect
the presence of fog. These lights must
therefore be switched on manually in
these circumstances.

"FOLLOW ME HOME"
DEVICE
This allows the space in front of the car
to be lit for a set time.
Activation
With the ignition key turned to STOP
or removed, pull the left-hand stalk
towards the steering wheel within 2
minutes of stopping the engine. Each
time the stalk is operated, the lights
stay on for an extra 30 seconds up to
a maximum of 210 seconds. When
this time is up the lights automatically
switch off.
Each time the stalk is operated, the
warning light on the instrument
panel switches on. The display shows
a message and the time set for the
function. The
warning light comes
on when the stalk is first moved
and stays on until the function is
automatically deactivated.
Deactivation
Keep the stalk pulled towards the
steering wheel for more than 2
seconds.
LIGHT BEAM DIRECTION
The correct aiming of the headlights is
important for the comfort and safety
of not only the driver but all other road
users. This is also covered by a specific
rule of the highway code.
The headlights must be correctly
aligned to guarantee the best visibility
conditions for all drivers while travelling
with headlights on.

windscreen wiper off
constant flick with 10 second periods
“faster” flick (speed related)
LO
constant slow wipe
HI
constant fast wipe
MIST function
Move the stalk upwards (unstable
position) to activate the MIST
function: operation is limited to the
time for which the stalk is held in this
position. When released, the stalk will
return to its default position and the
windscreen wiper will be stopped.
This function is useful to remove small
deposits of dust from the windscreen,
or morning dew.
WARNING This function does not
activate the windscreen washer;
windscreen washer fluid will not
therefore be sprayed onto the
windscreen. To spray windscreen
washer fluid onto the windscreen, the
washing function must be used. With
the ring (A) in position the windscreen
wiper is not activated. In position the
pause time between the strokes of the
windscreen wiper is approximately 10
seconds, independently of the car
speed. In position the pause time
between two strokes is set according
to the car speed: when the speed
increases, the time between two
strokes decreases. In position
LO
or
HI
, the windscreen wiper moves
continuously, i.e. without a pause
between two strokes.
“Smart washing” function
Pull the stalk towards the steering
wheel (unstable position) to operate
the windscreen washer. When the
stalk is held pulled for longer than half
a second, the windscreen wiper is
moved with active control.
The wipers flick three times when the
stalk is released, after which, if the
control is in position , the washing
cycle is concluded by one last flick after
a pause of approximately 6 seconds.
With the ring in
LO
or
HI
position, the
smart washing function is not carried
out.
WARNING If the stalk is activated for
less than half a second, only the screen
washer jet is activated. Do not prolong
the activation of the "Smart Washing"
function for more than 30 seconds. Do
not activate the screen washer control
when the reservoir is empty.
Raising the blades ("Service
position" function)
This function makes it possible to
replace the blades or protect them in
conditions of ice and/or snow.
Function activation
turn the ring (A) to position
(windscreen wipers off);
ignition key turned to the OFF
position;
after having turned the ignition key to
the STOP position, within two minutes
move the lever to the MIST
within
two minutes for at least half a second
to activate the wiper for part of a flick.
This operation can be repeated up
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
41
to three times, in order to move the
blade to the most suitable position for
replacement;
turn the ignition key to the MAR
position to move the blades back
down.
The function will be deactivated when
the engine is started again, in case of a
wiping request or with the car moving
(speed above 5 km/h).
WARNING Place the blades back in
contact with the windscreen before
activating the windscreen wiper again
and/or turning the ignition key to MAR-
ON.
WARNING Before activating the
function, make sure, when starting the
engine, that the windscreen is free of
snow or ice.
RAIN SENSOR
(for versions/markets, where provided)
17)
6) 7)
This is located behind the rear-view
mirror in contact with the windscreen
(fig. 46).
The sensor is activated with ignition
key turned to the MAR position, while
it is deactivated with the key turned to
STOP position.
The sensor can measure the amount
of rain and, consequently, manage
the automatic wiping mode of the
windscreen in accordance with the
amount of water on the window.

AUTOMATIC WIPING
Activation
Go to the “Settings” menu of the
Uconnect™
system (for more
information see the supplement
available online) and turn the ring (A) to
position or .
Inhibition
If the ignition key is turned to STOP,
leaving the ring (A) in position or ,
when the engine is next started (ignition
device at MAR), no wiping cycle occurs
for system protection reasons.
Deactivation
Go to the “Settings” menu of the
Uconnect™
system (for more
information see the supplement
available online) or turn the ring (A) to a
non-intermittent position ( or ).
WARNING Make sure, when turning on
the car, that the windscreen is free of
snow or ice before turning the ignition
key.

F0Y0655C
The ring (B) fig. 47 can be set to the
following positions:
rear window wiper stopped
intermittent operation
continuous operation, without
pausing between two strokes.
The rear window wiper can be
activated in the following ways:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
42
intermittent
with a two-second
pause between two strokes, when ring
(B) is in position and the windscreen
wiper is not in operation;
synchronous
(at half the windscreen
wiper frequency), when ring (B) is in
position and the windscreen wiper
is in operation or when ring B is in
position , reverse gear is engaged and
the windscreen wiper is in operation;
continuous
when ring (B) is in
position
Push the stalk towards the dashboard
(rocking position) to activate the rear
window washer jet. Keep pushing the
lever to automatically activate both the
rear window washer jet and the rear
window wiper with a single movement.
Releasing the stalk will activate
three strokes, as described for the
windscreen wiper. If the position is
(rear window wiper stopped), after a
six second pause, the washing cycle
is completed by a single stroke. The
smart wash cycle will not be performed
if the ring (B) is in position .
If washer lasting longer than 30
seconds is needed, the washing cycle
will be inhibited as described in the
“Smart washing” paragraph.
17)
Make sure the device is turned off
whenever the windscreen glass must be
cleaned.
4)
Never use the screen wiper to remove
layers of snow or ice from the windscreen
glass. In such conditions, the wiper
may be subjected to excessive stress
and the motor cut-out switch, which
prevents operation for a few seconds, may
intervene. If operation is not restored (even
after turning the key and restarting the
engine), contact a Fiat Dealership.
5)
Do not operate the windscreen wiper
with the blades lifted from the windscreen.
6)
Do not activate the rain sensor when
washing the car in an automatic car wash.
7)
Make sure the device is switched off if
there is ice on the windscreen glass.
8)
Do not use the rear window wiper to
remove layers of snow or ice. In such
conditions, the wiper may be subjected to
excessive stress and the motor cut-out
switch, which prevents operation for a few
seconds, may intervene. If operation is not
restored, contact a Fiat Dealership.
