THE FIAT CODE
SYSTEM
This is an electronic engine locking
system which increases protection
against attempted theft of the car. It
is automatically activated when the
ignition device is removed.
There is an electronic device in
each key which can identify the
signal emitted, when the engine is
started, from an aerial built into the
ignition device. The signal is the
"password", different every time the car
is started, through which the control
unit recognises the key and enables
starting.
OPERATION
Each time the car is started by turning
the ignition key to MAR, the Fiat CODE
system control unit sends a recognition
code to the Powertrain Control Module
to deactivate the immobiliser.
The code is sent only if the Fiat CODE
system control unit has acknowledged
the code received from the key.
Each time the ignition key is turned
to STOP, the Fiat CODE system
deactivates the functions of the engine
control module. If, during starting, the
code is not correctly recognised, the
icon
appears on the instrument
panel display. In this case, turn the key
to STOP and then to MAR; if it is still
locked, try again with the other keys
that come with the car. Contact a Fiat
Dealership if you still cannot start the
engine.
WARNING Each key has its own code
which must be stored by the system’s
control unit. To store new keys, up to
a maximum of eight, contact a Fiat
Dealership and be ready to present all
the keys you have in your possession,
the CODE card, a personal identity
document and the car ownership
documents. The codes of any keys not
presented will be disabled. It will not be
possible to enable the disabled keys,
even of the owner finds them again.
Activation of symbol while driving
If the
symbol switches on, this
means that the system is running a
self-diagnosis (for example due to a
voltage drop). If the symbol remains on,
contact a Fiat Dealership.

or turn the ignition key to MAR.
1)
Button (B) fig. 4 should only be pressed
when the key is away from the body, in
particular from the eyes and from objects
that can be spoilt (e.g. clothes). Do not
leave the key unattended to avoid the
button being accidentally pressed while it
is being handled, e.g. by a child.
2)
Do not swallow the battery. Danger of
chemical burns. The keys contain a small
battery. If the battery is swallowed, it can
cause severe internal burns in just 2 hours
and cause death. Keep new and used
batteries out of the reach of children. If
the battery compartment does not close
securely, discontinue use of the product
and keep it out of reach of children. If you
believe that batteries may have been
swallowed or inserted inside the body,
seek medical attention immediately. The
emergency key (where provided) must be
immediately inserted into the electronic key
to prevent easy access to the battery.
3)
Once the safe lock system is engaged,
it is impossible to open the doors from
inside the car. Therefore, before getting
out of the car check that there is no-one
left on board.
1)
The electronic components inside
the key may be damaged if the key is
subjected to strong shocks. In order
to ensure complete efficiency of the
electronic devices inside the key, it should
never be exposed to direct sunlight.
1)
Used batteries should be disposed
of, as specified by law, in the special
containers, otherwise take them to a
Fiat Dealership, which will deal with their
disposal.
IGNITION DEVICE
4) 5) 6) 7)
The key can be turned to three different
positions fig. 7:
STOP: engine off, key can be
removed, steering column locked.
Some electrical devices (e.g. central
door locking system, etc.) can operate;
MAR: driving position. All electrical
devices are enabled;
AVV: engine starting.
7
F0Y0654C
The ignition device is fitted with a
safety system that requires the ignition
device to be turned back to STOP if
the engine does not start, before the
starting operation can be repeated.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
17
STEERING COLUMN
LOCK
Engagement:
when the key is in
position STOP, remove the key and
turn the steering wheel until it is locked.
Disengagement:
move the steering
wheel slightly as you turn the ignition
key to MAR.
4)
If the ignition device has been tampered
with (e.g. attempted theft), have it checked
over by a Fiat Dealership before driving
again.
5)
Always remove the key when you
leave your car to prevent someone from
accidentally operating the controls.
Remember to engage the parking brake.
Engage 1st gear if the car is parked uphill
or reverse if the car is parked downhill.
Never leave children unattended in the car.
6)
It is absolutely forbidden to carry out
any after-market operation involving
steering system or steering column
modifications (e.g.: installation of
anti-theft device) that could badly affect
performance and safety, invalidate
the warranty and also result in non-
compliance of the car with type-approval
requirements.
7)
Never remove the key while the
car is moving. The steering wheel will
automatically lock as soon as it is turned.
This holds true for cars being towed as
well.

8)
All adjustments must be made with the
car stationary.
9)
Do not move the front passenger seat
table if a child is seated on the same or
sitting in the suitable child restraint system.
10)
After releasing the adjustment lever,
always check that the seat is locked on the
guides by trying to move it back and forth.
If the seat is not locked into place, it may
unexpectedly slide and cause the driver to
lose control of the car.
11)
Do not travel with the supporting
surface open: always make sure it is
correctly closed.
2)
The fabric upholstery of the seats has
been designed to withstand long-term
wear deriving from normal use of the car.
Some precautions are however required.
Avoid prolonged and/or excessive rubbing
against clothing accessories such as
metal buckles and Velcro strips which, by
applying a high pressure on the fabric in a
small area, could cause it to break, thereby
damaging the upholstery.
3)
Before tilting the front passenger seat
table fully, remove any objects laid on it.

that the head, rather than the neck, rests
on them. Only in this case they can protect
your head correctly.

22
F0Y0605C
13)
All adjustments must be carried out
only with the car stationary and engine off.
14)
Aftermarket operations that involve
tampering with the steering system or
steering column are strictly prohibited
(e.g. car alarm installation). This
operations could not only impact system
performance, but also cause the warranty
to be terminated. These operations could
also cause serious safety problems, as
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

well as causing the vehicle to cease to
comply with current regulations.

position.
If the mirrors were folded using device
(A), they can only be returned to the
driving position using the same device.
Courtesy light
Electric rear-view mirrors incorporate
LED courtesy lights which come on
when the mirrors are folded. The lights
remain on for the same time as the
courtesy lights inside the car.
Activation/deactivation of the
function
The
Uconnect™
system menu can be
used to activate/deactivate the electric
mirror folding function (the default
