Circuit operation

Headlights (with airbag)

Battery voltage is applied to the light switch through "HEAD" fuse, R wire and HEADLIGHT relay. In the "HEAD"
position of the light switch and the "HL" position of the dimmer switch, The relay routes GND through the light
switch terminal B(W/L) of E-01 through headlight switch and B wire and is energized.Battery voltage also is
applied to the LO beam filaments of the right and left headlight through the light switch, "HEAD LOW" fuse and
R/L wire.The headlight LO beams illuminate.
With the dimmer switch in the "HU" position, Battery voltage also is applied to the beam indicator and the HI
bean filaments of the right and left headlight through the light switch, "HEAD (HI)" fuse and R wire. The
headlight HI beams and HI beam indicators illuminate. When the flash-to -pass switch is activated, battery
voltage is applied to the beam indicators and the HI beam filaments of the right and left headlight through the
"HEAD" fuse, R wire, flash-to-pass switch, R wire and "HEAD HI" fuse. The headlight HI beams and HI beam
indicators illuminate. The beam indicators illuminate when the dimmer switch is in "HIGH" position or the flash-
to-pass switch is activated.

Headlights (Without airbag)

Battery voltage is applied to the light switch through "HEAD" fuse, and R wire. In the "HAED" position of the
light switch and the "HL" position of the dimmer switch, Battery voltage also is applied to the LO beam filaments
of the right and left headlight through the light switch, "HEAD LOW" fuse and R/L wire. The headlight LO
beams illuminate.
With the dimmer switch in the "HU" position, Battery voltage also is applied to the beam indicator and the HI
beam filaments of the right and left headlight through the light switch, "HEAD HI" fuse and R wire. The
headlight HI beams and HI beam indicators illuminate.
When the flash-to-pass switch is activated, battery voltage is applied to the HI beam indicators and the HI
beam filaments of the right and left headlight through the "HEAD" fuse, R wire, flash-to-pass switch, R wire and
"HEAD HI" fuse. The headlight HI beams and HI beam indicators illuminate. The HI beam indicators illuminate
when the dimmer switch is in "HIGH" position or the flash-to-pass switch is activated.

Troubleshooting

Headlights (With airbag)

Preliminary check:
Check an open lamp filament before proceeding with diagnosis. If headlight bulb is damaged, check connection of the
bulband replace bulb. Also, check "HEAD(25A)", "HEAD LOW(15A)" and "HEAD HI(15A)" fuse and HEADLIGHT relay. If
open, check for short and overload, replace fuses or relay and check that all system electrical connectors mated correctly.
Low beam headlights do not operate.

Go to next step

No

Repair open or short in the wire "W/L" to
headlight switch or replace.

Connect test light between headlight switch
terminal B(W/L) of E-01 and terminal H(B) of
E-01.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Check for a poor connection at headlight switch.
If OK, repair or replace headlight switch.

Ground headlight switch terminal B(W/L) of
E-01.
Connect test light between headlight switch
terminal D(R/G) of E-01 and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Repair open or short in the wire "R/G" or
replace.

Turn headlight switch to "HEAD" position.
Connect test light between headlight switch
terminal D(R/G) of E-01 and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Repair or replace headlight switch.

Make sure the dimmer switch is in "HL"
position.Connect test light between headlight
switch terminal F(R/L) of E-01 and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Check for a poor connection at headlight switch.
If OK, repair or replace headlight switch.

Connect teat light between headlights terminal
A(R/L) of E-03(LH) or/and E-04(RH) and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Check for a poor connection at headlight switch.
If OK, repair open or short in the wire "R/L" or
replace.

Connect test light between headlights terminal A
(R/L) of E-03(LH) or/and E-04(RH) and terminal
C(B) of E-03(LH) or/and E-04(RH)
Is test light ON?

Yes

Check for a poor connection at headlights. If OK,
replace the headlight bulbs.

No

Check for a poor connection at wiper & washer
switch assembly. If OK, replace open in the wire
"B" or replace.

High beam headlights do not operate.

Is test light ON?

No

Check for a poor connection at headlight switch.
If OK, repair open in the wire "B" or replace.

Ground headlight switch terminal B(W/L) of
E-01.
Connect test light between headlight switch
terminal D(R/G) of E-01 and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Repair open or short in the wire "R/G" or
replace.

Turn headlight switch to "HEAD" position.
Connect test light between headlight switch
terminal D(R/G) of E-01 and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Repair or replace headlight switch.

Make sure the dimmer switch is in "HU"
position.Connect test light between headlight
switch terminal L(R) of E-01 and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Check for a poor connection at headlight switch.
If OK, repair or replace headlight switch.

Connect teat light between headlights terminal
B(R) of E-03(LH) or/and E-04(RH) and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Check for a poor connection at headlight switch.
If OK, repair open or short circuits in the wire "R"
or replace.

Connect test light between headlights terminal B
(R) of E-03(LH) or/and E-04(RH) and terminal
C(B) of E-03(LH) or/and E-04(RH)
Is test light ON?

Yes

Check for a poor connection at headlights. If OK,
replace the headlight bulbs.

No

Check for a poor connection at wiper & washer
switch assembly. If OK, repair open in the wire
"B" or replace.

High beam headlights do not operate by flash-to-pass switch

terminal A(R) of E-01 and ground.
Is test light OK?

Go to next step

No

Repair open or short in the wire "R" to headlight
switch or replace.

With pulled the flash-to-pass switch toward
driver, connect test light between headlight
switch terminal L(R) of E-01 and ground.
Is test light OK?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Check for a poor connection at headlight switch.
If OK, repair headlight switch.

Connect jumper wire between headlight switch
terminal A(R) and L(R) of E-01, connect test light
between headlights terminal B(R) of E-03(LH)
or/and E-04(RH) and ground.
Is test light OK?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Check for a poor connection at headlight switch.
If OK, repair open or short in the wire "R" or
replace.

Connect test light between headlights terminal
B(R) of E-03(LH) or/and E-04(RH) and terminal
C(B) of E-03(LH) or/and E-04(RH).
Is test light OK?

Yes

Check a poor connection at headlights. If OK,
replace the headlight bulbs.

No

Check a poor connection at ground. If OK, repair
open in the wire "B" or replace.

Headlights (Without airbag)

Preliminary check:
Check an open lamp filament before proceeding with diagnosis. if headlight bulb is damaged, check connection of the
bulband replace bulb. Also, check "HEAD(25A)", "HEAD LOW(15A)" and "HEAD HI(15A)" fuse. If open, check for short and
overload, replace fuses and check that all system electrical connectors mated correctly.
Low beam headlights do not operate

Is test light ON?

Go to next step

No

Repair open or short in the wire "R" to headlight
switch or replace.

Turn headlight switch to "HEAD" position. Make
sure the dimmer switch is in "HL" position.
Connect test light between headlight switch
terminal D(R/L) of E-01 and ground.
Is test light ON?

Yes

Go to next step

No

Check for a poor connection at headlight switch.
If OK, repair headlight switch.

Connect test light between headlights terminal

Yes

Go to next step
