2. Inspect the torque converter clutch pulse

width modulation (TCC PWM) solenoid
valve for the following conditions:

z

Internal malfunction, such as sediment
or damage

z

Damaged seals

Refer to Torque Converter Clutch
Pulse Width Modulation (TCC
PWM) Solenoid, TCC Solenoid, and
Wiring Harness
.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 14

1. Inspect the 1-2 shift solenoid (SS) valve for

the following conditions:

z

Internal malfunction, such as sediment
or damage

z

Damaged seals

Refer to Shift Solenoid Leak Test .

2. Inspect the 2-3 shift solenoid (SS) valve for

the following conditions:

z

Internal malfunction, such as sediment
or damage

z

Damaged seals

Refer to Shift Solenoid Leak Test .

3. Inspect the 3-2 shift solenoid valve assembly

for the following conditions:

z

Internal malfunction, such as sediment
or damage

z

Damaged seals

Refer to Shift Solenoid Leak Test .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 14

Go to Step 6

Inspect the valve body assembly for the following
conditions:

z

Stuck regulator apply valve

z

Scored regulator apply valve body

Inspect the torque converter assembly for the
following conditions:

z

Front stator shaft bushing for wear

z

Stator roller clutch not holding

z

External damage/leaks

Refer to Torque Converter End Play

Inspect the oil pump assembly for the following
conditions:

z

A stuck converter clutch valve

z

The converter clutch valve is assembled
backwards

z

A mispositioned converter clutch valve
retaining ring

z

A cocked converter clutch outer valve spring

z

A mispositioned pump to case gasket

z

Restricted orifice cup plugs

z

Damaged orifice cup plugs

z

Over-tightened, or unevenly tightened pump
body to cover bolts

Manual.

Inspect the input housing and shaft assembly for the
following conditions:

z

Cut turbine shaft O-ring seal

z

Damaged turbine shaft O-ring seal

Restricted turbine shaft retainer and ball
assembly

Inspect the 2-4 band assembly for the following
conditions:

Worn 2-4 band/ptxt>

z

Damaged 2-4 band/ptxt>

z

Mispositioned 2-4 band/ptxt>

z

Misassembled 2-4 band

z

The band anchor pin is not engaged

Repair Manual.


Inspect the 2-4 servo assembly for the following
conditions:

z

Restricted apply passages in the 2-4 servo
assembly

z

Blocked apply passages in the 2-4 servo
assembly

z

Nicks or burrs on the 2nd apply piston pin

z

Damaged 2nd apply piston pin

z

Incorrect 2nd apply piston pin

z

Nicks or burrs on the pin bore in the case

z

Damaged fourth servo piston

z

Misassembled fourth servo piston

z

Damaged servo bore in the case

z

Missing piston seals

z

Cut piston seals

z

Damaged piston seals

z

Porosity in the pistons

Damaged forward clutch housing retainer and
ball assembly

Forward clutch housing retainer and ball
