5. Using piston ring pliers, install the piston rings onto the piston.
6. Position the oil control ring end gaps a minimum of 25 mm (1.0 in) from each other.
7. Position the compression ring end gaps 180 degrees opposite each other.

8. Install the connecting rod bearings (3) to the rod (2) and cap (4).

J 33049 Camshaft Bearing Service Set. See Special Tools and Equipment .
Removal Procedure

1. Prior to bearing removal, inspect the camshaft bearings for loose fit in the engine block bearing bores.
Refer to Camshaft and Bearings Cleaning and Inspection .
2. Repair or replace the components as required.
IMPORTANT: A loose camshaft bearing may be caused by an enlarged, out of round or
damaged engine block bearing bore.

3. Select the expanding driver (4-8) and washer (2 or 3) from the J 33049 . See Special Tools and
Equipment .
4. Assemble the tool.
