ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER (See REMOVAL )
2. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER (See REMOVAL )
3. INSPECT TILT MOTOR
a. Disconnect the connector A from the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU.

b. Connect the positive (+) battery terminal to terminal 10 (TIM+) and the negative battery terminal to
terminal 1 (TIM-) of the tilt motor connector. Then confirm that the steering wheel tilts up.
OK: Steering wheel tilts up.
c. Connect the negative (-) battery terminal to terminal 10 (TIM+) and the positive battery terminal to
terminal 1 (TIM-) of the tilt motor connector. Then confirm that the steering wheel tilts down.
OK: Steering wheel tilts down.

4. INSPECT TELESCOPIC MOTOR
a. Disconnect the connector B from the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU.
b. Connect the positive battery terminal to terminal 2 (TEM+) and the negative battery terminal to
terminal 6 (TEM-) of the telescopic motor connector. Then confirm that the steering column
contracts.
OK: Steering column contracts.
c. Connect the negative battery terminal to terminal 2 (TEM+) and the positive battery terminal to
terminal 6 (TEM-) of the telescopic motor connector. Then confirm that the steering column
extends.
OK: Steering column extends.

5. INSTALL LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER (See INSTALLATION )
6. INSTALL UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER (See INSTALLATION )
REMOVAL
1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the
precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing
the steering column (see PRECAUTION ).
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the
negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt
pretensioner activation.
NOTE:
After the ignition switch is turned OFF, the navigation system
requires approximately 90 seconds to record various types of
memory and settings. As a result, after turning the ignition switch
OFF, wait 90 seconds or more before disconnecting the cable from
the negative (-) battery terminal.
Some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected

3. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER (See REMOVAL )
4. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER (See REMOVAL )
5. REMOVE STEERING PAD (w/ Steering Pad Switch) (See REMOVAL )
6. REMOVE STEERING PAD (w/o Steering Pad Switch) (See REMOVAL )
7. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the steering wheel set nut.
b. Put matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft.
c. Using SST, remove the steering wheel.
SST 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05011)

8. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER
a. Remove the 2 screws.
b. Detach the 2 claws to remove the lower steering column cover.

9. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER
a. Detach the 4 clips.
(see INITIALIZATION ).
