POWER STEERING SYSTEM (FOR 1GR-FE, 2UZ-FE)
PRECAUTION
1. HANDLING PRECAUTIONS FOR STEERING SYSTEM
a. Care must be taken when replacing parts. Incorrect replacement could affect the performance of the
steering system and result in driving hazards.
b. Complete the adjustment of the steering wheel and wheel alignment, and then initialize the steering
angle sensor. If the order is reversed, the steering wheel and wheel alignment will become
misaligned.
2. HANDLING PRECAUTIONS FOR SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM
a. This vehicle is equipped with an SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). Failure to carry out a
service operation in the correct sequence could cause the SRS to unexpectedly deploy during
servicing, possibly leading to a serious accident. Before servicing (including removal/installation,
inspection and replacement of parts), be sure to read the precautionary notices for the supplemental
restraint system (see PRECAUTION ).

If any defect is found, replace the drive belt.
HINT:
Cracks on the rib side of a belt are considered acceptable. Replace the belt if there are any
missing ribs.
After installing a belt, check that it fits properly in the ribbed grooves.
Check with your hand to confirm that the belt has not slipped out of the grooves on the
bottom of the pulley.
2. BLEED POWER STEERING SYSTEM
a. Check the fluid level.
b. Jack up the front of the vehicle and support it with stands.
c. Turn the steering wheel.
1. With the engine stopped, turn the wheel slowly from lock to lock several times.
d. Lower the vehicle.
e. Start the engine.
f. Run the engine at idle for a few minutes.
g. Turn the steering wheel.
1. With the engine idling, turn the wheel left or right to the full lock position and keep it there
for 2 to 3 seconds, then turn the wheel to the opposite full lock position and keep it there for
2 to 3 seconds.(*1)
2. Repeat (*1) several times, (h) Stop the engine.
