REMOVAL

1. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE (See REMOVAL )

2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

3. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER (See REPLACEMENT )

4. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT (See REPLACEMENT )

5. REMOVE FRONT WIPER MOTOR AND LINK ASSEMBLY (see REMOVAL )

6. REMOVE FRONT COWL TOP OUTER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (see REMOVAL )

7. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (see REMOVAL )

8. REMOVE AIR CLEANER HOSE ASSEMBLY (see REMOVAL )

9. REMOVE VACUUM HOSE ASSEMBLY (see REMOVAL )

10. REMOVE NO. 2 WATER BYPASS PIPE (see REMOVAL )

11. REMOVE FUEL RETURN TUBE (See REMOVAL )

12. REMOVE FUEL MAIN TUBE (See REMOVAL )

13. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD (see REMOVAL )

14. REMOVE VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE ASSEMBLY (for ACIS)

a. Disconnect the 2 vacuum hoses.

b. Remove the 2 bolt, VSV connector and VSV from the intake manifold.

NOTE:

After the ignition switch is turned OFF, the navigation system
requires approximately 90 seconds to record various types of
memory and setting. As a result, after turning the ignition switch
OFF, wait 90 seconds or more before disconnecting the cable from
the negative (-) battery terminal

Some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected
(see INITIALIZATION ).

c. Disconnect the VSV connector.

INSPECTION

1. INSPECT INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE

a. With 40 kPa (300 mmHg, 11.8 in.Hg) of vacuum applied to the actuator, check that the actuator rod

moves.

b. One minute after applying the vacuum in the above step, check that the actuator rod does not

return. If the operation is not as specified, replace the intake manifold.

2. INSPECT VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE ASSEMBLY (for ACIS)

a. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
