INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as
freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in
determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the
air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction (see DTC
CHECK/CLEAR
).

1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SENSOR POWER SOURCE)

a. Disconnect the D40 or D41 VVT sensor connector.

Exhaust VVT sensor voltage

Less than 0.3 V

Exhaust VVT sensor voltage

More than 4.7 V

Exhaust VVT sensor signal

No signal

VVT sensor voltage

0.3 to 4.7 V
