If DTC P0014 or P0015 is displayed, check the bank 1 VVT system for exhaust camshaft circuit.
Bank 1 refers to the bank that includes the No. 1 cylinder*.
*: The No. 1 cylinder is the cylinder which is farthest from the transmission.
If DTC P0024 or P0025 is displayed, check the bank 2 VVT system for exhaust camshaft circuit.
Bank 2 refers to the bank that does not include the No. 1 cylinder.
Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition
information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame
data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was moving or stationary, whether the engine
was warmed up or not, whether the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the
.
PROCEDURE
1.
CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0014, P0015, P0024
OR P0025)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
(c) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
(d) Read DTCs.

HINT:
If any DTCs other than P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

2.
PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (OPERATE OCV)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Start the engine.
(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Warm up the engine.
(e) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT
Exhaust Linear (Bank 1) or Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 2).
(f) Check the engine speed while operating the Oil Control Valve (OCV) using the Techstream.

3.
CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 OR P0025)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the Techstream on.
(c) Clear DTCs

(d) Warm up the engine.
(e) Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in the Confirmation Driving
Pattern.
(f) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
(g) Read the output pending.
OK:
No pending DTC output.

CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS

CHECK VALVE TIMING (CHECK FOR LOOSE AND JUMPED TEETH ON TIMING
CHAIN)

(a) Remove the cylinder head cover LH and RH.
HINT:
If the alignment marks are not as shown, turn the crankshaft one revolution clockwise.
If the result is not as specified, check mechanical parts related to valve timing for looseness in the
timing chain, jumped teeth, etc.
OK:
Timing marks on camshaft timing gears are aligned as shown in the illustration.

INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (OCV FOR

(a) Inspect the camshaft oil control valve assembly

REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING EXHAUST GEAR
(a) Replace the camshaft timing exhaust gear

HINT:
Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly

8.
CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the Techstream on.
(c) Clear DTCs
.
(d) Warm up the engine.
(e) Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in the Confirmation Driving
Pattern.
(f) Read the output pending DTCs using the Techstream.
OK:
No pending DTC output.
HINT:
DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025 is output when foreign objects in the engine oil are caught in some
