HINT:
Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when
malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle
was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and
other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
PROCEDURE
1.
PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (ACTIVATE THE VSV FOR EVAP
CONTROL)
(a) Connect a Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Disconnect the vacuum hose (charcoal canister side) from the purge VSV.
(c) Start the engine.
(d) Turn the Techstream on.
(e) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Activate the VSV for
EVAP Control.
(f) Operate the purge VSV and check the airflow.
OK:
TESTER OPERATION
SPECIFIED CONDITION
VSV ON
Purge VSV port applies suction to finger
VSV OFF
Purge VSV port applies no suction to finger
NG
GO TO STEP 2
OK

(a) Disconnect the D29 purge VSV connector.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

INSPECT PURGE VSV (POWER SOURCE)
(a) Disconnect the D29 purge VSV connector.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage:

CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PURGE VSV - ECM)
(a) Disconnect the D29 purge VSV connector.
(b) Disconnect the D74 ECM connector.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:

D29-2 - D74-63 (PRG)

D29-2 or D74-63 (PRG) - Body ground

5.
CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PURGE VSV - INTEGRATION RELAY)
(a) Check the EFI NO. 2 fuse.
(1) Remove the EFI NO. 2 fuse from the engine room relay block.
(2) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:

EFI NO. 2 fuse

Below 1 Ω
(3) Reinstall the EFI NO. 2 fuse.
(b) Disconnect the D29 purge VSV connector.
(c) Remove the integration relay from the engine room relay block.
(d) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
