Ford F150 Pickup. Instruction — part 1919

EXTENSION HOUSING

Removal (M5OD-R1 & M5OD-R2)

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

2. If equipped, turn the air suspension switch OFF.

3. With vehicle in Neutral, raise and support the vehicle.

4. Drain the transmission fluid.

5. Remove and support the rear driveshaft. Remove the bolts. See Fig. 6 . Remove the rear driveshaft.

6. Remove the transfer case, if equipped. See appropriate TRANSFER CASE article.

7. Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) bolt. See Fig. 7 . Remove

the VSS.

8. Use the High-Lift Jack (A) to support the transmission (B). Secure the transmission with the strap (C).

See Fig. 8 .

9. Remove the transmission mount nuts. See Fig. 9 .

10. Remove the heat shield bolts (one each side). See Fig. 10 .

11. Remove the crossmember bolts (three each side). Remove the crossmember. See Fig. 11 .

12. Remove the mount bolts. See Fig. 12 . Remove the transmission mount.

13. Remove the exhaust pipe bracket nuts. See Fig. 13 . Remove the exhaust pipe bracket.

14. Lower the transmission to access extension housing bolts. Use Seal Remover (A) to remove the extension

housing seal (B). See Fig. 14 .

15. Remove the extension housing bolts. See Fig. 15 . Remove the extension housing.

16. Remove the speedometer gear retaining ring. See Fig. 16 . Remove the speedometer drive gear.

deactivate SIR system before servicing components. See AIR BAG
DEACTIVATION PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.

CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems

may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer
systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN
PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting
battery.

NOTE:

To maintain initial driveshaft balance, index-mark the driveshaft to the rear
axle pinion flange so it can be installed in its original position.
