Chery B11. Manual — part 28

D position:
Manual Mode:
In manual mode, current gear level is
displayed in Arabic number, see
following figure for the example of gear 2.
Gear Lock
Before shifting from position “P” to “R”,
from “N” to “R” or “R” to “P”, gear lock
button, which is on the shift gear lever
must be pressed to release the lock. For
other position shift, this is not necessary.
Start Driving
Press on the foot brake pedal while the
engine is running at idle speed, shift to one
of the driving gear. Slowly release the
brake pedal and the vehicle will begin to
move. Press on the accelerator to pick up
the speed.
Engine of auto-shift model
vehicle can not be started by pulling
of towing-vehicle. Use an additional
battery to jump-start instead.
Under certain circumstances, such as
driving on a snow cover road, shift to gear
2 in manual-shift mode to drive the
vehicle.

Driving out of Slushy Roads
and Snow
When the driving wheels are stuck into
slushy roads or roads covered by snow, try
to switch between driving and reverse to
“shake” the vehicle out of them. Switch
between “D” and “R” and press slightly on
the accelerator. You can shift the gear to
“R” when the vehicle is still moving
forward or vice versa to improve the
effect.
Avoid switching between driving and
reverse (shake the vehicle) for a long time.
This will wear out the transmission. Do
not “shake” the vehicle for more than one
minute.
When “shaking” the vehicle, minimize the
engine speed.
Force to Lower Gear
When driving uphill or overtaking other
vehicles, auto-shift transmission will
provide higher driving strength. To obtain
the higher driving strength, press the
accelerator all the way down and hold it.
When reaching the maximum speed,
auto-shift transmission will switch the
gear to the next lower gear.
Stopping the Vehicle
Release the accelerator pedal and press on
the brake pedal. Remain the shift gear. To
drive again, release the brake pedal.
Driving Note for Different
Road Condition
Ÿ
In flat road or low-grade slope
condition, driving in gear “D” is
recommended. Pressing on
accelerator harder will pick up the
speed.
* Pressing on accelerator pedal
harder: Pressing on the accelerator
pedal hard and all the way down. The
purpose for doing so is to shift the
gear to the next lower level and
increase the driving strength, and
then to increase the engine speed and
pick up the speed.
Notice:
The vehicle will shake slightly, when the
gear is forced to lower level. This is not
because of the increased engine speed.
Driving
115
This situation is related to pressing hard
on the brake pedal.
If pressing on the accelerator pedal half or
two third of the way down, speed can be
picked up but is not picked up fast
enough. This is why some customer
complain about the acceleration.
Additionally, you’ll feel some vibration
when you press on the accelerator pedal
half way down and therefore avoid doing
that.
Ÿ
For medium grade slope, 3 or 2 gear
in Manual-shift is recommended.
Pressing hard on accelerator pedal
provides the prompt speed
acceleration.
Ÿ
For steep slope, please shift to gear 1
in the manual-shift mode instead of
“D”. Press hard on the accelerator
pedal to accelerate vehicle speed.
* Do not always use a same gear
during driving, instead shift between
gear 2 and “D” depending on the
steepness of the slope. Driving in
gear 1 instead of “D” long, the
transmission will be damaged faster.
Ÿ
When driving downhill, using the
brake long might overheat the brake
system and reduce its performance
quality. For this reason, shift to lower
gear and take advantage of
“engine-brake” to decrease vehicle
speed.
“Engine-brake” is achieved by releasing
accelerator pedal and shifting to lower
gear level, you will get braking effect
through deceleration of engine and low
gear of transmission.
The lower gear shifted to, the better brake
effect it would be.
Shifting to low gear when
vehicle is running at high speed
would greatly impact on the engine
and transmission system and wear
them out. Shift only when the vehicle
speed has decrease to certain range.
Ÿ
When driving down very steep
slopes, shift to lowest gear level in
manual mode to achieve best brake

effectiveness.
Drive through Water
When there’s water on the roads, drive
carefully and slowly, especially when you
do not know how deep the water is.
If the wheels has been
immerged in the water, do not
continue to drive.
When driving through water, the
performance of vehicle’s engine and brake
system decreases,there is possibility for
the engine to be off.
Your vehicle can sustain damage to the
transmission system ,if the water is deep
enough that it goes into transmission
system via ventilation holes.
When driving through water, drive slow
and press on the brake pedal several times,
which remove the water on the brake.
Water on the brake decrease its
performance quality.
Catalytic Converter
The catalytic converter reduces harmful
exhaust emissions
Your vehicle is designed for
use with unleaded fuel only. Minute
quantities of lead would be enough
to permanently damage both the
catalytic converter and the system's
oxygen sensor. Chery is not
responsible to any damages caused
by using of lead gasoline. If you
incautiously use lead gasoline, please
contact nearest Chery Special
Service Center.
Vehicles with gasoline engine are
equipped with a narrow filler pipe that can
only fits with unleaded gasoline nozzles.
