2. Cylinder gasket
3. Cylinder cover
4. M8 bolts of the cylinder cover

2. Cleaning
The sealing surface must be clean to
ensure the sealing of the cylinder, which
is especially important in the case of
aluminum gasket when all foreign
matters on the cylinder cover shall be
removed and all engine oil paths shall be
cleaned.
3. Checking
(1) The required evenness is 0.1mm
(0.004in.) (Figure 33).

1. Clearance gauge
2. Ruler

(2) Check if the camshaft bearing bush is
free of scratches.
(3) Clean the oil on the valve conduit.
(4) Measure the valve conduit with a dial
indicator (Figure 34) (see Engine –
Troubleshooting Procedure).

4. Fix the cylinder cover
Note: Check the cylinder cover bolts
before fixing the cylinder cover. Replace
if any trouble is discovered (Figure 35).

3-Screw thread is curved..
4-Bolt is elongated

(1) Clean the cylinder cover surface and
cylinder sealing surface.
(2) Place new gasket onto the
positioning lock.
(3) Place the cylinder cover onto the
cylinder body and make sure that the
cylinder cover is fully set into the
positioning lock.
(4) Apply engine oil onto the cylinder
cover bolts before screwing them on.
(5) Screw on the cylinder cover bolts in
sequence (Figure 36) and the screwing
torque is as follows:

Step One
Screw on the 10 pieces of M10 bolts
with a torque of 20N.m (15ft.lbs.)
Screw on the 2 pieces of M8 bolts with a
torque of 15N.m (11ft.lbs.)
Step Two
Screw on the 10 pieces of M10 bolts
with a torque of 41N.m (30ft.lbs.)
Step Three
Screw on the 10 pieces of M10 bolts
again with a torque of 41N.m (30ft.lbs.)
Step Four
Turn the 10 pieces of M10 bolts by 90
degrees (do not use torque spanners).
Screw on the 2 pieces of M8 bolts with a
torque of 30N.m (22ft.lbs.).

(6) Fix the timing chain guide board
with a torque of 28N.m (250in.lbs)
(Figure 31).
(7) Resume the timing chain’s mark on
the crank shaft.
(8) Align the camshaft sprocket wheel
with the triangle timing mark.
Note: do not use pneumatic tools to
screw fast the camshaft sprocket
wheel.
(9) Fix the camshaft sprocket wheel with
special tools and screw on the camshaft
sprocket wheel bolts with a torque of
15N.m (85ft.lbs) (Figure 15).
(10) Readjust the timing chain tensioner
as follows:

(A) Unfix the timing chain tensioner’s
engine oil chamber (Figure 37).

(B) Place the timing chain onto a clean
surface.
(C) Press open the tensioner check valve
and keep pressing down manually until it
lowers to the bottom (Figure 38).
(D) Fix the engine oil chamber into the
timing chain tensioner.
(11) Fix the timing chain tensioner onto
the cylinder body.
(12) Fix the timing chain tensioner with
a torque of 62N.m (46ft.lbs).
(13) Pry in the right timing chain guide
board with a long screw driver until the
tensioner is set into the sprocket wheel
position (Figure 39).

torque of 18N.m (162in.lbs).
(15) Fix the valve chamber cover (see
Engine/Engine Cover/Valve Chamber
Cover – Fixing).
(16) Fix the camshaft position sensor
with a torque of 10N.m (85in.lbs) and
connect the plug.
(17) Fix the left engine bracket (see 9-
Engine/Engine Fixing/Engine Bracket –
Fixing).
(18) Lower the car until the right engine
bracket bolts can be screwed on.
(19) Screw on the bolts of the right
engine bracket.
(20) Unfix the lower engine guard board.
