A10: CHECK THE AUXILIARY HEATER 1 CONTROL LINE 'OFF' STATE
• NOTE: It is assumed the ignition is still on from the previous step, if not, please make sure the ignition is returned to the 'key on engine
off' state.
Scan tool connected.
Access the ECM and control the auxiliary heater 1 relay PID.
De-activate the auxiliary heater 1.
Measure the resistance between:
Auxiliary heater 1 fuse connector
Vehicle battery
Auxiliary heater relay 1 output, pin 01
Positive post
Is the resistance greater than 10 ohms?
Yes
An intermittent fault may be present in the wiring harness. Visually check for
chaffed wires or other physical damage to the harness. If no fault is found in
the circuit, suspect the following component(s):- Fuse- ECM connector- Fusebox
assembly- ECM
No
GO to A11

A11: ELIMINATE THE ECM FROM THE POSSIBLE CAUSES
Key off.
ECM connector disconnected.
Key on, engine off.
Measure the resistance between:
Auxiliary heater 1 fuse connector
Vehicle battery
Auxiliary heater relay 1 output, pin 01
Negative post
Is the resistance greater than 10 ohms?
Yes
SUSPECT:- ECM
No
GO to A12
.
A12: CHECK THE ECM CONTROL LINE FOR SHORT CIRCUIT TO GROUND
Measure the resistance between:
ECM connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Engine coolant heater relay 1 control, pin 61
Negative post
Is the resistance greater than 10 ohms?
Yes
SUSPECT:- Fusebox assembly
No
REPAIR the short circuit. For additional information, refer to the wiring
diagrams.
A13: CHECK WHETHER THE SHORT CIRCUIT TO POWER IS IN THE ECM HARNESS OR THE MODULE
Key off.
ECM connector disconnected.
Key on, engine off.
Measure the resistance between:
Junction box connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Engine coolant heater relay 1 control, pin 38
Positive post
Is the resistance greater than 10 ohms?
Yes
SUSPECT:- ECM
No
REPAIR the short circuit. For additional information, refer to the wiring
diagrams.
A14: CHECK THE ECM CONTROL LINE FOR CONTINUITY
Key off.
ECM connector disconnected.
Measure the resistance between:
Junction box connector, harness side
ECM connector, harness side
Auxiliary heater relay 1 control, pin 38
Auxiliary heater relay 1 control, pin 61
Is the resistance less than 10 ohms?
Yes
SUSPECT:- ECM connector- ECM
No
REPAIR the open circuit, For additional information, refer to the wiring
diagrams.

Negative post
Is the voltage between 9 volts and 15 volts?
Yes
GO to B7

No
GO to B2

B2: CHECK THE AUXILIARY HEATER 2 CONTROL LINE FOR SHORT CIRCUIT TO GROUND
Key off.
Auxiliary heater 2 relay connector disconnected.
Key on, engine off.
Measure the resistance between:
Auxiliary heater connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Auxiliary heater 2 control, pins 03 and 05
Negative post
Is the resistance greater than 10 ohms?
Yes
GO to B3
.
No
REPAIR the short circuit. For additional information, refer to the wiring
diagrams.
B3: CHECK THE AUXILIARY HEATER 2 CONTROL LINE FOR CONTINUITY
Measure the resistance between:
Auxiliary heater connector, harness
side
Auxiliary heater 2 relay connector,

B4: CHECK THE SUPPLIES TO THE AUXILIARY HEATER 2 RELAY
Key off.
Measure the voltage between:
Auxiliary heater 2 relay connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Permanent 12 volt supply, pin 03
Negative post
Key on, engine off.
Measure the voltage between:
Auxiliary heater 2 relay connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Ignition supply, pin 01
Negative post
Are the voltages between 9 volts and 15 volts?
Yes
GO to B5
.
No
NO supply to the auxiliary heater 2 circuit. For additional information, refer to
the wiring diagrams.
B5: CHECK THE ECM CONTROL LINE 'ON' STATE
Scan tool connected.
Access the ECM and control the auxiliary heater relay 2 PID.
Activate the auxiliary heater 2.
Measure the resistance between:
Auxiliary heater 2 relay connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Auxiliary heater relay 2 control, pin 02
Negative post
Is the resistance less than 10 ohms?
Yes
SUSPECT:- Auxiliary heater 2 relay connector- Auxiliary heater 2 relay
No
GO to B6

B6: CHECK THE ECM CONTROL LINE FOR SHORT CIRCUIT TO POWER
Measure the resistance between:
Auxiliary heater 2 relay connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Auxiliary heater relay 2 control, pin 02
Positive post
Is the resistance greater than 10 ohms?
Yes
GO to B12
.
No
GO to B11
.
B7: CHECK THE AUXILIARY HEATER 2 CONTROL LINE 'OFF' STATE
• NOTE: It is assumed the ignition is still on from the previous step, if not, please make sure the ignition is returned to the 'key on engine
off' state.
Scan tool connected.
Access the ECM and control the auxiliary heater heater relay 2 PID.
De-activate the auxiliary heater 2.
Measure the resistance between:
Auxiliary heater connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Auxiliary heater 2 control, pins 03 and 05
Positive post
Is the resistance greater than 10 ohms?
Yes
An intermittent fault may be present in the wiring harness. Visually check for

GO to B8

Auxiliary heater relay 2 connector disconnected.
Key on, engine off.
Measure the resistance between:
Auxiliary heater relay 2 connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Auxiliary heater 2 control, pin 05
Positive post
Is the resistance greater than 10 ohms?
Yes
GO to B9
.
No
REPAIR the short circuit. For additional information, refer to the wiring
diagrams.
B9: CHECK THE ECM CONTROL LINE FOR SHORT CIRCUIT TO GROUND
Measure the resistance between:
Auxiliary heater relay 2 connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Auxiliary heater 2 control, pin 02
Negative post
Is the resistance greater than 10 ohms?
Yes
SUSPECT:- Auxiliary heater relay 2
No
GO to B10
.
B10: CHECK WHETHER THE SHORT CIRCUIT TO GROUND IS IN THE ECM HARNESS OR THE MODULE
Key off.
ECM connector disconnected.

Yes

B11: CHECK WHETHER THE SHORT CIRCUIT TO POWER IS IN THE ECM HARNESS OR THE MODULE
Key off.

Key on, engine off.
Measure the resistance between:
Auxiliary heater relay 2 connector, harness side
Vehicle battery
Auxiliary heater 2 control, pin 02
Positive post
Is the resistance greater than 10 ohms?
Yes
SUSPECT:- ECM
No
REPAIR the short circuit. For additional information, refer to the wiring
diagrams.
B12: CHECK THE ECM CONTROL LINE FOR CONTINUITY
Key off.
ECM connector disconnected.
Measure the resistance between:
Auxiliary heater relay 2 connector, harness side
ECM connector, harness side
Auxiliary heater 2 control, pin 02
Auxiliary heater 2 control, pin 62
Is the resistance less than 10 ohms?
Yes
SUSPECT:- ECM connector- ECM
No
REPAIR the open circuit. For additional information, refer to the wiring
diagrams.
