Power door ON/OFF button

• When the power door ON/OFF but-

ton is ON (not depressed), the
power sliding door and power lift-
gate (tailgate) can be controlled
with the sub control buttons on the
center pillar trim or liftgate (tail-
gate). Also, the doors can be
opened and closed automatically
by pulling the inside or outside
door handles.

• When the power door ON/OFF but-

ton is OFF (depressed), the power
sliding door and power liftgate (tail-
gate) can not be controlled with the
sub control buttons or door han-
dles.
Also, the doors can be opened and
closed manually by pulling the
inside or outside door handles.

NOTICE

Do not allow children to play with
the power sliding door or power lift-
gate (tailgate). Keep the power door
ON/OFF

button in the OFF

(depressed) position when not in use.

NOTICE

Close the sliding door and liftgate
(tailgate), and keep the power door
ON/OFF

button in the OFF

(depressed) position before washing
the vehicle in an automatic car
wash.

NOTICE

When the sliding doors and power
liftgate (tailgate) are opened manual-
ly (power OFF), more effort will be
required to open and close than on
non-power sliding doors and non-
power liftgate (tailgate).

Power sliding door operation

• Push the corresponding main con-

trol button on the overhead con-
sole to open or close the power
sliding door.
However, the power sliding door
will not open with the main control
button when all power sliding doors
and power taligate are locked and
closed.

• When the power door ON/OFF but-

ton is ON (not depressed), do as
follows to open or close the power
sliding doors:
- Push the corresponding sub con-

trol button on the center pillar trim.

- Pull the door handle from inside

or outside vehicle.

- If the sub control button is pushed

while the door is locked or child
safety lock is engaged, the chime
sounds once, and the power slid-
ing door will not open.

- If the door handle is pulled from

inside or outside while the door is
locked or child safety lock is
engaged, the power sliding door
will not open. However, the power
sliding door can be opened by
pulling the outside door handle
while the door is unlocked and
child safety lock is engaged.

• When the power door ON/OFF but-

ton is OFF (depressed), the power
sliding door can not be controlled
with the sub control buttons or door
handles, and if the sub control but-
ton is pushed, chime sounds once.
However, the doors can be opened
and closed manually by pulling the
door handles from inside or out-
side vehicle.

• On a steep grade, the power slid-

ing door will slide faster when clos-
ing. And the drive unit motor may
operate additionally for a moment
after the door is closed. This is a
normal operation to ensure door
closing, not a malfunction.

When the rear passenger operates
the power sliding door, make sure
there are no people or objects around
the door, and have all occupants get in
or out of the vehicle after the door is
open fully and stopped. Let the rear
passengers get in or out of the vehicle
after the door is open fully. Sudden
closing could cause a serious injury.
Close the door by pulling the door
handle after the door is open fully. Do
not pull the door handle while rear
passengers are getting in or out. The
door could suddenly close by itself
and cause a serious injury. It takes
about 5 seconds for the power sliding
door to close and latch completely.

• The left power sliding door cannot

be opened while the fuel filler lid is
open fully. If the main or sub control
button is pushed, the chime
sounds once. Also, if the fuel filler
lid open button is pushed while the
left power sliding door is opening,
the chime sounds 3 times.

NOTICE

If the fuel filler lid is opened when
the left sliding door is not closed
completely, the door may be opened.
Close the left sliding door before
refueling to prevent possible dam-
age to the door or the fuel filler lid.

WARNING -

Rear door
locks

Use the rear door safety locks
whenever children are in the
vehicle. If a child accidently
opens the rear doors while the
vehicle is motion, he can fall out.

WARNING -

Power sliding
door

Do not begin to accelerate
before the door closes and
latches completely. If the door
is not completely closed while
the vehicle is moving, the door
can open and passengers can
fall out of the vehicle.

• If the power sliding door is not

closed and latched completely
after power closing operation, the
chime sounds 3 times. Open and
close the door again.

• If the power sliding door is operat-

ed while the door is in partially
opened position (less than 12
in./300 mm), the door is automati-
cally opened fully.

• If the power sliding door is operat-

ed while the door is in half-opened
position (more than 12 in./300
mm), the door is automatically
closed completely.

• If the power sliding door is operated

again while the door is closing, the
door is automatically opened fully.

• If the power sliding door is operated

again while the door is opening, the
door is automatically closed com-
pletely. However, If the power slid-
ing door is operated again when
the door is in partially opened posi-
tion (less than 12 in./300 mm), the
door is opened continuously.

• The half-opened power sliding door

is automatically opened or closed
fully by pushing the door forward or
backward without pulling the door
handle while the power door
ON/OFF button is in ON (not
depressed). However, when the
door is in partially opened position
(less than 12 in./300 mm), the door
is not closed automatically.

Power sliding door non-opening
conditions

The power sliding door is not auto-
matically opened, but closed under
the following conditions. If the main
or sub control button is pushed for
power opening operation, the chime
sounds once.
When the ignition switch is in the ON
position,
1. Vehicle is moving above 3 mph (5

km/h).

2. The gearshift lever is not in P

(Park) for automatic transaxle.

Power liftgate (tailgate) opera-
tion (if equipped)

• Push the power liftgate (tailgate)

main control button for approxi-
mately 1 second on the overhead
console to open or close the power
liftgate (tailgate). However, the
power liftgate (tailgate) will not
open with the main control button
when all power sliding doors and
power liftgate (tailgate) are locked
and closed. But the power liftgate
(tailgate) will be opened with the
folding key (or smart key).

• When the power liftgate (tailgate)

is operated with the main or sub
control button or transmitter, the
chime sounds and hazard warning
lights flash 2 times.

• When the power door ON/OFF but-

ton is ON (not depressed), do as
follows to open or close the power
liftgate (tailgate):
- Pushing the sub control button on

the bottom of the liftgate (tailgate)
will close the power liftgate (tail-
gate) automatically.

- Pressing and pulling up the lift-

gate (tailgate) handle slightly will
open the power liftgate (tailgate)
automatically when the liftgate
(tailgate) is unlocked.

• When the power door ON/OFF but-

ton is OFF (depressed), the power
liftgate (tailgate) can not be controlled
with the sub control buttons or liftgate
(tailgate) handle.
However, the liftgate (tailgate) may
be opened manually by pulling the
exterior handle and lifting the lift-
gate (tailgate) upward. The liftgate
(tailgate) may be manually closed
by pushing the liftgate (tailgate)
downward.

• Do not drive the vehicle until the

power liftgate (tailgate) completely
closed.
The power liftgate (tailgate) may
not close completely if the vehicle
is started during automatic closing.

NOTICE

The button on the liftgate (tailgate)
will not illuminated and operated
when the power door On/OFF but-
ton is OFF (depressed).

NOTICE

If the power liftgate (tailgate) does
not operate normally, first check the
following condition before using the
power liftgate (tailgate).
• Make sure the shift lever is in

Park

• Make sure the Power Liftgate

(Tailgate) Off switch is not
pressed.

If any of the power liftgate (tailgate)
buttons are pressed while the power
liftgate (tailgate) is in operation, the
power liftgate (tailgate) will stop. If
any button is pressed again the
power liftgate (tailgate) will reverse
direction.

• Even though the Power door

ON/OFF button is in the OFF
(depressed) position, if the liftgate
(tailgate) is manually closed to the
secondary latch position, the liftgate
(tailgate) will be electrically moved
to the fully latched position. Make
sure that face, arms, hands, and
other obstructions are safely out of
the way before operating the liftgate
(tailgate).

• The chime will sound and the haz-

ard warning flasher will blink 10
times if you drive with the liftgate
(tailgate) closed but not fully
secured. Stop your vehicle immedi-
ately at a safe place to check if
your liftgate (tailgate) is securely
locked.

• Make sure there are no people or

objects around the liftgate (tailgate)
before operating the power liftgate
(tailgate). Wait until the liftgate (tail-
gate) is open fully and stopped
before loading or unloading cargo
or passengers from the vehicle.

• Make sure the liftgate (tailgate) is

closed firmly before driving. If the
liftgate (tailgate) is open, you will
draw dangerous exhaust fumes
into your vehicle which can cause
serious injury or death to vehicle
occupants.

• If the power liftgate (tailgate) is not

closed and latched completely
after power closing operation, the
chime will sound and hazard warn-
ing lights will blink 10 times. Stop
the driving immediately and close
the liftgate (tailgate) securely at the
safe place.

• If the power liftgate (tailgate) is oper-

ated while the liftgate (tailgate) is in
the partially opened position (more
than 9degrees), the liftgate (tailgate)
will stop the operation. If you operate
the power liftgate (tailgate) again, the
power liftgate (tailgate) will be oper-
ate in the opposite direction.

• If the power liftgate (tailgate) is

operated while the liftgate (tailgate)
is in the partially closed position
(less than degrees), the liftgate
(tailgate) will open fully.

• If the power liftgate (tailgate) is oper-

ated while the liftgate (tailgate) is in
the partially opened position (less
than 9degrees), the liftgate (tailgate)
will stop at approximately 9degree
open position.

Power liftgate (tailgate) non-
opening conditions

The power liftgate (tailgate) will not
open automatically, but will close
under the following conditions.
When the ignition switch is in the ON
position,
1. Vehicle is moving above 2 mph (3

km/h).

2. The gearshift lever is not in P

(Park) for automatic transaxle.

The chime will sound continuously if
you drive over 2mph (3km/h) with the
liftgate (tailgate) opened. Stop your
vehicle at a safe place as soon as
possible to check if your liftgate (tail-
gate) is opened.

Power liftgate (tailgate) open-
ing height user setting

The driver may set the height of a
fully opened liftgate (tailgate) by fol-
lowing the below instruction.
1. Confirm the position of the power

door ON/OFF button is ON (not
depressed).

2. Position the liftgate (tailgate) man-

ually or via automatic operation to
the height you prefer.

3. Press the liftgate (tailgate) close

button for more than 3 seconds.

4. You will hear the system beep

twice indicating height has been
set up.

The liftgate (tailgate) will open to the
height the driver has set up.

WARNING

Make sure that there are no peo-
ple or objects in the path of the
power liftgate (tailgate) (or
smart liftgate (tailgate)) prior to
use. Serious injury, damage to
the vehicle or damage to sur-
rounding objects may result if
contact with the power liftgate
(tailgate) (or smart liftgate (tail-
gate)) occurs.

Emergency liftgate (tailgate)
safety release

Your vehicle is equipped with an
emergency liftgate (tailgate) safety
release lever located on the bottom
of the liftgate (tailgate). When some-
one is inadvertently locked in the
cargo area, the liftgate (tailgate) can
be opened by pushing the release
lever and pushing open the liftgate
(tailgate).

Smart Liftgate (Tailgate)
(if equipped)

On a vehicle equipped with a smart
key, the liftgate (tailgate) can be
opened using the Smart Liftgate
(Tailgate) system.
If the power door ON/OFF button is
in the OFF (depressed) position, the
smart liftgate (tailgate) will not oper-
ate.

How to use the Smart Liftgate
(Tailgate)

The liftgate (tailgate) can be opened
with no-touch activation satisfying all
the conditions below.
• After 15 seconds when all doors

are closed and locked

• Positioned in the detecting area for

more than 3 seconds.

NOTICE

• The Smart Liftgate (Tailgate) does

not operate when:
- The smart key is detected within

15 seconds after the doors are
closed and locked, and is contin-
uously detected.

- The smart key is detected within

15 seconds after the doors are
closed and locked, and within 60
inches (1.5 m) from the front
door

handles. (for

equipped with Welcome Light)

- A door is not locked or closed.
- The smart key is in the vehicle.

1. Setting
To activate the Smart Liftgate
(Tailgate), go to User Settings Mode
and select Smart Liftgate (Tailgate)
on the LCD display.

For more information, refer to the
"LCD Display" section in this
chapter.

2. Detect and Alert
If you are positioned in the detecting
area (20~40 inches (50 ~100 cm)
behind the vehicle) carrying a smart
key, the hazard warning lights will
blink and chime will sound for about
3 seconds to alert you the smart key
has been detected and the liftgate
(tailgate) will open.

NOTICE

Do not approach the detecting area
if you do not want the liftgate (tail-
gate) to open. If you have uninten-
tionally entered the detecting area
and the hazard warning lights and
chime starts to operate, leave the
detecting area with the smart key.
The liftgate (tailgate) will stay
closed.

3. Automatic opening
The hazard warning lights will blink
and chime will sound 2 times and
then the liftgate (tailgate) will open.

Make sure you close the liftgate (tail-
gate) before driving your vehicle.
Make sure there are no people or
objects around the liftgate (tailgate)
before opening or closing the liftgate
(tailgate). Make sure objects in the
liftgate (tailgate) do not come out
when opening the liftgate (tailgate)
on a slope. It may cause serious
injury. Make sure to deactivate the
Smart Liftgate (Tailgate) when wash-
ing your vehicle. Otherwise, the lift-
gate (tailgate) may open inadvertent-
ly. The key should be kept out of
reach of children. Children may inad-
vertently open the Smart Liftgate
(Tailgate) while playing around the
rear area of the vehicle.

How to deactivate the Smart
Liftgate (Tailgate) function using
the smart key

1. Door lock
2. Door unlock
3. Liftgate (Tailgate) open
4. Panic
5. Right side power sliding door open

/ close

6. Left side power sliding door open /

close

If you press any button of the smart
key during the Detect and Alert
stage, the Smart Liftgate (Tailgate)
function will be deactivated.
Make sure to be aware of how to
deactivate the Smart Liftgate
(Tailgate) function for emergency sit-
uations.

Liftgate (Tailgate) lift

Make certain that you close the
liftgate (tailgate) before driving
your vehicle. Possible damage
may occur to the liftgate (tail-
gate) lift cylinders and attached
hardware if the liftgate (tailgate)
is not closed prior to driving.

NOTICE

• If you press the door unlock but-

ton (2), the Smart Liftgate
(Tailgate) function will be deacti-
vated temporarily. But, if you do
not open any door for 30 seconds,
the smart liftgate (tailgate) func-
tion will be activated again.

• If you press the liftgate (tailgate)

open button (3) for more than 1
second, the liftgate (tailgate) opens.

• If you press the door lock button

(1) or liftgate (tailgate) open but-
ton (3) when the Smart Liftgate
(Tailgate) function is not in the
Detect and Alert stage, the smart
liftgate (tailgate) function will not
be deactivated.

• In case you have deactivated the

Smart Liftgate (Tailgate) function
by pressing the smart key button
and opened a door, the smart lift-
gate (tailgate) function can be acti-
vated again by closing and locking
all doors.

Detecting area

• The Smart Liftgate (Tailgate) oper-

ates with a welcome alert if the
smart key is detected within 20~40
inches (50~100 cm) from the lift-
gate (tailgate).

• The alert stops at once if the smart

key is positioned outside the
detecting area during the Detect
and Alert stage.

NOTICE

• The Smart Liftgate (Tailgate) func-

tion will not work if any of the fol-
lowing occurs:
- The smart key is close to a radio

transmitter such as a radio sta-
tion or an airport which can
interfere with normal operation
of the transmitter.

- The smart key is near a mobile

two way radio system or a cellu-
lar phone.

- Another vehicle’s smart key is

being operated close to your
vehicle.

• The detecting range may decrease

or increase when :
- One side of the tire is raised to

replace a tire or to inspect the
vehicle.

- The vehicle is parked on a slope

or unpaved road, etc.

Power windows

The ignition switch must be in the ON
position for power windows to operate.
Each door has a power window
switch that controls the door's win-
dow. The driver has a power window
lock button which can block the oper-
ation of passenger windows. The
power windows can be operated for
approximately 30 seconds after the
ignition key is removed or turned to
the ACC or LOCK (or OFF) position.
However, if the front doors are
opened, the power windows cannot
be operated even within the 30 sec-
ond period.
If the window cannot be close
because it is blocked by objects,
remove the objects and close the
window.

NOTICE

While driving with the rear windows
down or with the sunroof (if
equipped) in an open (or partially
open) position, your vehicle may
demonstrate a wind buffeting or
pulsation noise. This noise is a nor-
mal occurrence and can be reduced
or eliminated by taking the follow-
ing actions. If the noise occurs with
one or both of the rear windows
down, partially lower both front
windows approximately one inch. If
you experience the noise with the
sunroof open, slightly reduce the
size of the sunroof opening.

Window opening and closing

The driver’s door has a master power
window switch that controls all the
windows in the vehicle.
To open or close a window, press
down or pull up the front portion of
the corresponding switch to the first
detent position (5).

WARNING

Do not install any accessories
in the area of windows. It may
impact jam protection.

Auto down window (if equipped)

Pressing the power window switch
momentarily to the second detent
position (6) completely lowers the
driver’s window even when the
switch is released. To stop the win-
dow at the desired position while the
window is in operation, momentarily
pull the switch in the direction oppo-
site of the window’s movement.

Auto up/down window (if equipped)

Pressing or pulling up the power win-
dow switch momentarily to the second
detent position (6) completely lowers
or raises the window even when the
switch is released. To stop the window
at the desired position while the win-
dow is in operation, pull up or press
down and release the switch.
If the power window does not operate
normally, the automatic power win-
dow system must be reset as follows:

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON

position.

2. Close the driver's and passenger's

window and continue pulling up
the driver’s power window switch
for at least 1 second after the win-
dow is completely closed.
