KIA Forte (2018 year). Instruction — part 15
Floor mat anchor(s) (if
equipped)
When using a floor mat on the front
floor carpet, make sure it attaches to
the floor mat anchor(s) in your vehicle.
This keeps the floor mat from sliding
forward.
WARNING
The following must be observed
when installing ANY floor mat to the
vehicle.
(Continued)
(Continued)
• Ensure that the floor mats are se‐
curely attached to the vehicle's
floor mat anchor(s) before driving
the vehicle.
• Do not use ANY floor mat that
cannot be firmly attached to the
vehicle's floor mat anchors.
• Do not stack floor mats on top of
one another (e.g. all-weather rub‐
ber mat on top of a carpeted floor
mat). Only a single floor mat
should be installed in each position.
IMPORTANT - Your vehicle was man‐
ufactured with driver's side floor
mat anchors that are designed to
securely hold the floor mat in place.
To avoid any interference with pedal
operation, Kia recommends that the
Kia floor mat designed for use in
your vehicle be installed.
Luggage net (holder) (if
equipped)
To keep items from shifting in the car‐
go area, you can use the four holders
located in the cargo area to attach the
luggage net.
If necessary, Kia recommends to con‐
tact an authorized Kia dealer/service
partner.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to the goods or
the vehicle, care should be taken

when carrying fragile or bulky ob‐
jects in the luggage compartment.
WARNING
To avoid eye injury, DO NOT over‐
stretch the luggage net. ALWAYS
keep your face and body out of the
luggage net’s recoil path. DO NOT
use the luggage net when the strap
has visible signs of wear or damage.
Cargo area cover (5 Door)
Use the cover to hide items stored in
the cargo area.
The cargo area cover will be lifted when
the tailgate is opened. Disconnect the
strap (1) from holder if you want to re‐
turn the cover to original position. To
remove the cargo area cover complete‐
ly, lift the cover to a 43- degree angle
and pull it out to the full (2). For instal‐
lation of the cover, reverse the removal
procedure.
CAUTION
• When you return the cargo area
cover to its original position, hold
the cover and lower it.
• Do not operate the vehicle with
the cover removed. It may damage
to the cover.
• The cargo area cover may be lifted
when the tailgate is opened. En‐
sure that the luggage on the cover
is moved to a safe place.
• Since the cargo area cover may be
damaged or malformed, do not
apply excessive force to the cover
or do not put the heavy loads on it.
WARNING
• Do not place objects on the cargo
area cover while driving. Such ob‐
jects may be thrown about inside
the vehicle and possibly injure ve‐
hicle occupants during an accident
or when braking.

NOTICE
If you install an after market HID
head lamp, your vehicle s audio and
electronic device may malfunction.
❈
If your vehicle is equipped with
AVN(Audio, Video and Navigation)
system, refer to a separately sup‐
plied manual for detailed informa‐
tion.
Antenna
Glass antenna
Your vehicle uses a glass antenna to re‐
ceive both AM and FM signals.
CAUTION
• Do not clean the inside of the rear
window glass or quarter glass with
a cleaner or use a scraper to re‐
move any foreign deposits as this
may cause damage to the antenna
elements.
• Avoid adding metallic coating such
as Ni, Cd, and so on.
These can interfere with AM/FM
reception.
• To prevent damage to the rear
glass antenna, never use sharp in‐
struments or window cleaner con‐
taining abrasives to clean the win‐
dow. Clean the inside surface of
the rear glass window with a piece
of soft cloth.
• When putting a sticker on the in‐
side surface of the rear window,
be careful not to damage to the
rear glass antenna.
• Do not put sharp instruments
nearby the rear glass antenna.
• Tinted rear window may affect
the proper functioning of the an‐
tenna.
Roof antenna (if equipped)
Your car uses a roof antenna to receive
both AM and FM broadcast signals. This
antenna is a removable type. To re‐
move the antenna, turn it counterclock‐
wise. To install the antenna, turn it
clockwise.
Audio system
5-02
CAUTION
• Before entering a place with a low
height clearance or a car wash, re‐
move the antenna by rotating it
counterclockwise. If not, the an‐
tenna may be damaged.
• When reinstalling your antenna, it
is important that it is fully tight‐
ened and adjusted to the upright
position to ensure proper recep‐
tion. But it could be removed when
parking the vehicle or when load‐
ing cargo on the roof rack.
• When cargo is loaded on the roof
rack, do not place the cargo near
the antenna pole to ensure proper
reception.
Steering wheel audio controls (if
equipped)
The steering wheel audio control but‐
ton is installed to promote safe driving.
CAUTION
Do not operate audio remote control
buttons simultaneously.

How vehicle audio works
AM and FM radio signals are broadcast
from transmitter towers located
around your city. They are intercepted
by the radio antenna on your vehicle.
This signal is then received by the radio
and sent to your vehicle speakers.
When a strong radio signal has reached
your vehicle, the precise engineering of
your audio system ensures the best
possible quality reproduction. However,
in some cases the signal coming to your
vehicle may not be strong and clear.
This can be due to factors, such as the
distance from the radio station, close‐
ness of other strong radio stations or
the presence of buildings, bridges or
other large obstructions in the area.
5-05
5
Audio system
AM broadcasts can be received at
greater distances than FM broadcasts.
This is because AM radio waves are
transmitted at low frequencies. These
long, low frequency radio waves can
follow the curvature of the earth rath‐
er than travelling straight out into the
atmosphere. In addition, they curve
around obstructions so that they can
provide better signal coverage.
FM broadcasts are transmitted at high
frequencies and do not bend to follow
the earth's surface. Because of this, FM
broadcasts generally begin to fade at
short distances from the station. Also,
FM signals are easily affected by build‐
ings, mountains, or other obstructions.
These can result in certain listening
conditions which might lead you to be‐
lieve a problem exists with your radio.
The following conditions are normal and
do not indicate radio trouble:
• Fading - As your vehicle moves away
from the radio station, the signal will
weaken and sound will begin to fade.
When this occurs, we suggest that
you select another stronger station.
• Flutter/Static - Weak FM signals or
large obstructions between the
transmitter and your radio can dis‐
turb the signal causing static or flut‐
tering noises to occur. Reducing the
treble level may lessen this effect un‐
til the disturbance clears.
Audio system
5-06
• Station Swapping - As a FM signal
weakens, another more powerful sig‐
nal near the same frequency may be‐
gin to play. This is because your radio
is designed to lock onto the clearest
signal. If this occurs, select another
station with a stronger signal.
• Multi-Path Cancellation - Radio sig‐
nals being received from several di‐
rections can cause distortion or flut‐
tering. This can be caused by a direct
and reflected signal from the same
station, or by signals from two sta‐
tions with close frequencies. If this
occurs, select another station until
the condition has passed.
Using a cellular phone or a two-
way radio
When a cellular phone is used inside the
vehicle, noise may be produced from
the audio system. This does not mean
that something is wrong with the audio
equipment. In such a case, use the cel‐
lular phone at a place as far as possible
from the audio equipment.
CAUTION
When using a communication sys‐
tem such as a cellular phone or a ra‐
dio set inside the vehicle, a separate
external antenna must be fitted.
When a cellular phone or a radio set
is used with an internal antenna
alone, it may interfere with the vehi‐
cle's electrical system and adversely
affect safe operation of the vehicle.
WARNING
Do not use a cellular phone while
driving. Stop at a safe location to use
a cellular phone.
