No. 214 Speedometer non-display

Malfunction Cause

Solution

Speed sensor poor operation

Lift vehicle with two-post lift then start engine,geared, and
accelerate, survey sensor pulse signal by oscilloscope. If
there is no pulse signal on display screen, then the sensor is
malfunction and must be replaced. Measure the voltage
between both ends of speed sensor, open ignition switch,
and rotate wheel slowly. The voltage between speed sensor
pin 1 and pin 3 shall be 0.5~9V, between pin 2 and pin 3
shall be 8V approximately. Otherwise, shall inspect speed
sensor circuit.

malfunction

Measure the resistance between pin 2 of speed sensor and
body, earth end, by multimeter, the value shall be 0 Ohm, sc.
conducted. Set ignition switch to ON position, measure the
voltage between pin 3 and body, earth end, the value shall
be 7.5~9V. Otherwise, shall maintain circuit or replace
instrument assembly.

Speed sensor power supply circuit
malfunction

Lift vehicle with two-post lift, then turn shift lever to neutral
gear and set ignition switch at ON position. Rotate front
wheel slowly, measure the voltage between pin 1 and pin 2
by multimeter, the value shall between 0.5V and 9V.
Otherwise, replace speed sensor.

Speed sensor drive or driven gear
damaged

Lift vehicle with two-post lift, then start engine, geared, and
accelerate. Survey sensor pulse signal by oscilloscope, if
there is no pulse signal on display screen, then shall inspect
speed sensor firstly. If it finds no damage in sensor
inspection, then shall remove driven gear from speed sensor
rear end, as well as drive gear from gearbox output shaft,
and survey whether it appears gear hit and miss. Replace it
when necessary.

instrument connecting circuit
malfunction

Open fuse box and check CLUSTER (10A) AM1 (30A) and
fuse MAIN (80A), whether they are burnt. Replace them
when necessary. Disconnect connector from grouped
instrument assembly, measure the resistance between B7
(GND) and body (earth end) by multimeter, as well as the
resistance between B8 (GND) and body (earth end), and the
value shall be 0 Ohm, sc. conducted. Otherwise, shall
maintain connecting circuit.

No. 215 Freedom ship speedometer malfunction, indicates automatically when pressing horn

Malfunction Cause

Solution

Battery positive pole wire poor
contact

Check battery positive pole pin, whether it is poor contacted. Clean


and tighten it when necessary.

Set multimeter to voltage range, connect the red probe to terminal A11


on instrument panel pin, the black probe to body earth lead, turn ignition
switch to ON position, press horn button, and survey the variation of
voltage indicator. If the indicator swings greatly, which indicates short
circuit between speedometer and center integrated controlling circuit,
then shall implement maintaining work.

Instrument connecting cable short
circuit

Pull out instrument pin and center integrated controller pin, measure


the resistance between two ends of wire harness and earth lead, of
which value shall be infinite, sc. non-conducted. Otherwise, shall
maintain or replace wire harness.

Check center integrated controller surface, whether it

is burnt. Smell

center integrated controller, whether there is burnt taste. Replace center
integrated controller when necessary.

Disconnect center integrated controller and speedometer connecting


pin, measure the resistance respectively between terminal A11 on
instrument connector and terminal A3 of center integrated controller, the
value shall be 0 Ohm, sc. conducted. And the resistance between any
terminal and earth shall be infinite. Otherwise, shall replace wire
harness

Center integrated controller inner
short circuit or damage

Set multimeter to voltag

e range, turn ignition switch to ON position,

connect the red probe to terminal A3 on center integrated controller, the
black probe to body earth lead, then press horn button and survey the
variation of multimeter indicator. Maintain center integrated controller or
replace it when necessary.

Since the horn button switch is integrated in grouped switch on


Freedom ship; therefore, once there is short circuit between horn button
and grouped switch, they will affect each other.

Disconnect center integrated controller and grouped switch connec

tor,

measure the resistance between A21 and A2, as well as A22 and A3, by
multimeter, and the value shall be 0 Ohm. Measure the resistance
between any terminal and body earth lead, the value shall be infinite.

Check circuit between grouped switch and h

orn button, whether there

is short circuit. Disconnect center integrated controller connector, and
measure it by multimeter. The resistance between C6 and A21, C6 and
A22, C6 and B11, C6 and B22 shall be infinite, sc. non-conducted. Press
horn button, the multimeter indicator shall stand still. Otherwise, it
indicates grouped switch inner short circuit or burnt, and shall be
replaced.

Pull out instrument connector and center integrated
controller pin; inspect the harness by multimeter,
whether there is short circuit.

Check center integrated controller inner circuit,

whether there is short circuit or damage

Check instrument connecting wire.

Check horn button circuit and grouped
switch.

Check center integrated controller, whether
it is burnt.

Connect multimeter to terminal A11 on instrument
panel connector, set ignition switch to ON position,
press horn button, and survey the variation of
voltage indicator.

Inspect, maintain, replace

Connect multimeter to terminal A3 on center
integrated controller, set ignition switch to ON
position, press horn button, and survey the
variation of voltage indicator.

Measure the resistance between C6 and A21, C6 and
A22, C6 and B11, C6 and B22, by multimeter, press
horn button, and survey the variation of multimeter
indicator.

Inspect and maintain speedometer and
center integrated
controller connecting wire, whether
there is short circuit.
Replace center integrated controller
when necessary.

Inspect, maintain, replace

Disconnect center integrated controller and grouped switch
connector, measure the resistance between A21 and A2,
as well as A22 and A3, by multimeter.

Replace grouped switch assembly
