Front timing gear housing

Removing

1

Drain the cooling system. Refer to booklet
02:01-01, cooling system, work description.

Remove the bracket 1 and the part of the
airline 2 routed in front of the engine.

Remove the poly-V-belts.

Remove the idler roller on trucks without
AC.

5

Disconnect the fuel connections on the feed
pump and bend to one side.

6

Remove the coolant temperature sensor and
oil pressure sensor with clamp.

7

Disconnect the power steering pump and
place to one side.

8

Disconnect the fan bracket and electric
cable to the fan if the vehicle is fitted with
electrically controlled fan.

9

Push the fan and fan bracket into the fan
cowling.

10 Remove the oil filter housing.

11 Remove the timing gear housing.

Fitting

1

Fit the timing gear housing.

2

Refit the fan and electric cable for the fan if
the vehicle is fitted with electrically
controlled fan.

Fit the power steering pump.

4

Fit the coolant temperature sensor and oil
pressure sensor with clamp.

5

Fit the fuel connections on the feed pump.

6

Fit the idler roller on trucks without AC.

7

Fit the poly-V-belts.

8

Fit the air line from the compressor and the
bracket.

9

Fit the oil filter housing.

10 Fill the cooling system.

Front crankshaft seal

Renewal

Special tools

1

Remove the poly-V-belts and belt pulleys on
the crankshaft.

Note: The crankshaft seal, seals against the
inner belt pulley. Handle the belt pulley with
care.

Remove the crankshaft seal using a
screwdriver. Take care not to damage the
sealing surface in the housing.

Wipe clean the sealing ring seat in the
housing.

Note: The crankshaft seal must be fitted dry and
must not be lubricated. The sleeve in the seal
must not be removed until just before the
crankshaft seal is to be fitted on the engine.

Place the new seal in tool 99 374 and press
it in place by tightening the bolts alternately.
The seal is correctly fitted when the tool
bottoms.

Remove the tool. Fit the bolts into the
threaded holes and use as a handle to make
removal easier.

Wipe clean the sealing surface on the belt
pulley and fit it immediately.

7

Fit the outer belt pulley.

8

Fit the poly-V-belts.
