IMPORTANT! Make sure to place the pushrods
in their correct positions. Make sure the pushrod
to the unit injector is firmly secured in position
by the retaining ring.
11 Fit the pushrods.
12 Fit the bearing bracket and torque tighten
the bolts to 105 Nm.
13 Refit the rocker arm shaft. Screw in the bolts
alternately so that they are tightened in
parallel or one of the bolts may bend.
Torque tighten the bolts to 105 Nm.
14 Check the valve clearance and unit injector
setting as described in Adjusting the valve
clearance and unit injector.
IMPORTANT! Use torque screwdriver 588 179
to avoid the risk of shearing off the screws. The
entire unit injector must be renewed if the
screws shear off.
15 Reconnect the cables on the unit injectors.
Their relative position is not important. Use
torque screwdriver 588 179 to tighten the
screws to 2 Nm.

16 Fit the upper part of the rocker cover and
torque tighten the screws to 18 Nm.
17 Fit the exhaust manifold and tighten the
bolts to 63 Nm.
18 Fit the cooling system ventilation pipe.
19 Fit the fuel manifold with overflow line.
Torque tighten the screws to 26 Nm and the
banjo screws on the overflow line to 11 Nm.

Note: Make sure all the washers with rubber
seals are intact.
20 Fit the intake manifold.
If cylinder 1-2 was removed:
21 Fit the control unit cooler with control unit
and fuel filter.
If cylinder 3-4 was removed:
22 Fit the crankcase ventilation unit.
If cylinder 5-8 was removed:
23 Fit the charge air pipe between the
turbocharger and the charge air cooler.
24 Fit the inlet pipe to the crankcase ventilation
filter.
25 Screw on the connecting pipe between the
intake manifolds.
On all cylinders:
26 Connect the air line to the compressor.
27 Connect the pipe from the crankcase
ventilation.
28 Connect the air line to the compressor.
29 Fit the inlet pipe between the air filter and
the turbocharger.

Valves
Removing
Special tools
1
Press down the spring using tool 99 322 in a
press so that the collets can be removed.
Remove the collets, valve spring collars,
springs and valves.
2
Place the valves in a stand so that they can
be refitted in the same position in the
cylinder head.

Fitting
Special tools

Lubricate all parts well with engine oil
before assembly.

Fit the valve in the guide.

Fit the valve springs and the valve spring
collar.

Compress the springs in a press using tool
99 322 and fit the collets. Take care to fit the
collets in the correct position.
