Troubleshooting
DTC 7-4: Rear Solenoid (cont'd)
Check for a short in the R-IN cir-
cuit:
Check for continuity between the
ABS control unit 26P connector
terminal No. 3 and the following
terminals:
— No. 2: Right-front inlet
— No. 15: Right-front outlet
— No. 1: Left-front inlet
— No. 14: Left-front outlet
Is there continuity?
Is there battery voltage?
ABS CONTROL UNIT 26P CONNECTOR
Repair short to the FR-IN, FR-
OUT, FL-IN or FL-OUT circuit in
the R-IN circuit between the ABS
control unit and modulator unit.
Wire side of female terminals
Repair short to the FR-IN, FR-
OUT, FL-IN or FL-OUT circuit in
the R-OUT circuit between the
ABS control unit and modulator
unit.
NOTE: Leave jumper wire
in fail-safe relay connector.
Repair open in the R-IN or R-OUT
circuit between the ABS control
unit and modulator unit.
Check for a short in the R-OUT
circuit:
Check for continuity between the
ABS control unit 26P connector
terminal No. 16 and the following
terminals:
— No. 2: Right-front inlet
— No. 15: Right-front outlet
— No. 1: Left-front inlet
— No. 14: Left-front outlet
Is there continuity?

ABS CONTROL UNIT 22P CONNECTOR
Check for an open in the GND cir-
cuit:
1. Disconnect the ABS control
unit 22P connector.
2. Check for continuity between
terminal No. 10 and body
ground.
Is there continuity?
Repair open in the wire between
the ABS control unit and body
ground, or poor ground.
Wire side of female terminals
Check for a short to body ground
in the FSR circuit:
1. Remove the front fail-safe
relay.
2. Remove the jumper wire from
the rear fail-safe relay connec-
tor.
3. Check for continuity between
the ABS control unit 22P con-
nector terminal No. 1 and body
ground.
Is there continuity?
Repair short to body ground in
the wire between the ABS con-
trol unit and rear fail-safe relay.
REAR FAIL-SAFE RELAY CONNECTOR
Check for an open in the FSR cir-
cuit:
1. Connect the rear fail-safe relay
terminal No. 4 to body ground
with a jumper wire.
2. Check for continuity between
the ABS control unit 22P con-
nector terminal No. 1 and
body ground.

Is there continuity?
Repair open in the wire between
the ABS control unit and rear
fail-safe relay.

Check for an open in the GND cir-
cuit:
1. Remove the jumper wire from
the rear fail-safe relay connec-
tor.
2. Check for continuity between
the rear fail-safe relay connec-
tor terminal No. 3 and body
ground.
REAR FAIL-SAFE RELAY CONNECTOR
Is there continuity?
Repair open in the wire between
the rear fail-safe relay and body
ground, or poor ground.
Terminal side of female terminals
Check for loose ABS control unit
connectors. If necessary, substi-
tute a known-good ABS control
unit and recheck.

DTC 8-1: ABS Function
The ABS control unit monitors the ABS functioning time during regular diagnosis, and it turns the ABS indicator light on if
the ABS is functioning for a prolonged time.
Possible causes:
Wheel sensor signal disappears at speeds of 6 mph (10 km/h) or less
Faulty ABS control unit
— With engine running, ABS indi-
cator light is ON.
— With the SCS service connec-

DTC 8-1 is indicated.
Problem verification:
Test-drive the vehicle at speeds
of 12 mph (20 km/h) or more for
more than 2 minutes.
Does the ABS indicator light
come on?
The system is OK at this time.
Check for loose wheel sensor
connectors, and check the sensor
installation (intermittent trou-
ble).
Probable cause was driving over
rough roads.
Is code 8-1 indicated?
Perform the appropriate trouble-
shooting for the code.
Replace the ABS control unit.
