Check for an open in the STR-VCC
circuit:

Measure the voltage between the

steering angle sensor connector
terminal No. 5 and body ground.

Is there about 5 V?

Check for an open in the STR-
GND circuit:

Measure the voltage between the

steering angle sensor connector
terminals No. 5 and No. 1.

Is there about 5 V?

Check the STR-A circuit inside the
steering angle sensor:

1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

2. Connect the steering angle sen-

sor connector.

3. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
4. Measure the voltage between

the steering angle sensor con-

nector terminal No. 2 and body
ground when turning the steer-
ing wheel slowly.

Is there 5 V 0 V?

Check the STR-B circuit inside
the steering angle sensor:

Measure the voltage between the
steering angle sensor connector

terminal No. 4 and body ground
when turning the steering wheel
slowly.

Is there 5 V 0 V?

Check for an open in the STR-A
circuit:

Measure the voltage between the

TCS control unit 14P connector
terminal No. 13 and body ground
when turning the steering wheel
slowly.

Is there 5 V 0 V?

Check for an open in the STR-B cir-
cuit:
Measure the voltage between the
TCS control unit 14P connector
terminal No. 9 and body ground
when turning the steering wheel
slowly.

Is there 5 V

0

V?

Repair open in the wire between

the TCS control unit and steering
angle sensor.

Wire side of female terminals

Repair open in the wire between

the TCS control unit and steering

angle sensor.

Erase the DTC, and turn the steer-
ing wheel slowly after starting

the engine. If TCS indicator light
comes on and DTC 2-1 is indicated,

replace the TCS control unit.

TCS Inhibition

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 3-1: TCS Inhibition Diagnosis

TC-INH: PGM-FI TCS, TCS inhibition/permission/failure signal
TC-STB: TCS PGM-FI, TCS operation start signal
TC-FC: TCS PGM-FI, Fuel cut (torque down) signal

The PCM outputs the TC-INH signal to the TCS control unit when the PCM receives the correct TC-STB and TC-FC sig-

nals from the TCS control unit.

The TCS indicator light goes off when the TCS control unit receives the TC-INH signal.
The TC-INH signal becomes low (0 V) when the TC-STB signal or the TC-FC signal fails, then DTC 3-1 is memorized.
The TC-INH signal becomes low (0 V) when PGM-FI DTC 3, 5, 6, 15, 35 or 36 is memorized, then TCS DTC 3-1 is memo-

rized.

Is DTC 35 or 36 indicated?

NOTE: Perform the PGM-FI trou-
bleshooting when a PGM-FI DTC
other than 35 and 36 is indicated.

).

Check for a PGM-FI DTC (see

section 11

).

With engine running, TCS
indicator light is ON.
With the SCS service connec-
tor connected (see page

19-159

), DTC 3-1 is indicated.

Troubleshooting

TC-INH Signal (No PGM-FI DTC is indicated)

Check for a short to body ground

in the TC-INH circuit:

1. Disconnect the PCM connec-

tor C (12P) and TCS control

unit 14P connectors.

2. Check for continuity between

the PCM connector C (12P) ter-

minal No. 9 and body ground.

Is there continuity?

Check the PCM:

1. Connect the PCM connector C

(12P).

2. Start the engine.
3. Measure the voltage between

the PCM connector C (12P) ter-

minal No. 9 and body ground.

Does the tester needle swing

to about 2.5 V?

Check for an open in the TC-INH
circuit:

Measure the voltage between the

TCS control unit 14P connector
terminal No. 8 and body ground.

Does the tester needle swing

to about 2.5 V?

Check for loose TCS control unit
connectors. If necessary, substi-
tute a known-good TCS control
unit and recheck.

PCM CONNECTOR C (12P)

Repair short to body ground in
the wire between the PCM and
TCS control unit.

Wire side of female terminals

NOTE: Check under the following condi-

tions.

The coolant temperature is above 32°F

(0°C).

The MIL does not come on.

NOTE: Use the 10 V range or a similar
range in an analog tester.

Check for loose PCM connectors.

If necessary, substitute a known-
good PCM and recheck.
