PGM-FI System
Barometric Pressure (Baro) Sensor
The HDS or the scan tool indicates Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P2227: A range/performance problem in the
Barometric Pressure (BARO) Sensor circuit.
Is DTC P2227 indicated?
Intermittent failure, system is OK
at this time.
YES
Substitute a known-good PCM
and recheck. If symptom/indica-
tion goes away, replace the origi-
nal PCM.
Problem verification:
1. Do the PCM reset procedure.
2. Connect the SCS service con-
nector.
3. Start the engine. Hold the
engine at 3,000 rpm with no
load (in Park or neutral) until
the radiator fan comes on,
then let it idle.
4. Test-drive with the transmis-
sion in position.
5. Accelerate for five seconds
using wide open throttle.
— The MIL has been reported on.
— DTC P2227 is stored.

sensor circuit.
The HDS or the scan tool indicates Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P2229: A high voltage problem in the Baro
sensor circuit.
The MIL has been reported on.
DTC P2228 or P2229 is stored.
Problem verification:
1. Do the PCM Reset Procedure.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

MIL Circuit Troubleshooting
Turn the ignition switch ON (II)
and watch the Malfunction
Indicator Lamp (MIL).
NOTE:
If this symptom is intermittent, check for the following problems.
• The MIL never comes on after the ignition switch is turned ON (II).
— A loose No. 6 ECU (PCM) (20 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box
— A loose No. 22 FUEL PUMP (20 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box
— An intermittent short in the wire between the PCM (A7) and the gauge assembly
— An intermittent short in the wire between the PCM (D10) and the MAP sensor
— An intermittent short in the wire between the PCM (D21) and the TP sensor, EGR
valve position sensor, fuel tank pressure sensor, TCS control valve angle sensor
— A loose No. 25 IG COIL (30 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box
— PGM-FI main relay
• The MIL stays on or comes on after 2 seconds with the ignition switch turned ON (II).
— An intermittent short in the wire between the PCM (C5) and the service check con-
nector, data link connector
— An intermittent open in the wire between the PCM (D22) and the service check connec-
tor
— An intermittent short in the wire between the PCM (A7) and the gauge assembly.
• See the HDS or the scan tool user's manuals for specific operating instructions.
Does the MIL come on and
stay on?
YES
NO
Check the fuse:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II]
Does the low oil pressure
indicator light come on?
NO
YES
Check the engine starting:
Try to start the engine.

Check for an open in the wires
(IGP lines):
1. Disconnect the fuel injector
and IAC valve connectors.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
3. Measure voltage between
body ground and the PCM
connector terminals A13 and
B1 individually.
Is there battery voltage?
YES
