Fuel Pump Relay (cont'd)
FUEL PUMP RELAY 4P CONNECTOR
(C667)
Check for open in the fuel pump
relay:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect the PCM connec-
tor C (12P) from the PCM.
3. Disconnect the 4P connector
from the fuel pump relay.
4. Connect fuel pump relay con-
nector terminals No. 2 to No. 4
with a jumper wire*.
5. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
6. Measure voltage between
PCM connector terminal C4
and body ground.
CAUTION: * the PCM connector C (12P)
must be disconnected for this test or
the PCM will be damaged.

Fuel Filter
Replacement
Do not smoke while working on fuel system.
Keep open flame away from your work area.
•
While replacing the fuel filter, be careful to keep a safe
distance between battery terminals and any tools.
The fuel filter should be replaced whenever the fuel pres-
sure drops below the specified value [299 - 348 kPa
(3.05 - 3.55 kgf/cm
2
, 43 - 50 psi) with the fuel pressure
regulator vacuum hose disconnected and pinched] after
making sure that the fuel pump and the fuel pressure
regulator are OK.
Place a shop towel under and around the fuel filter.
2. Relieve fuel pressure (see page
).
3. Remove the special bolt and the fuel feed pipe while
supporting the fuel filter with another wrench, as
shown.
4. Remove the fuel filter bracket.
5. Remove the fuel filter stay and fuel filter.
6. Install the new fuel filter in the reverse order of
removal, and note these items:
• When
use new washers as shown.
• Clean the flared joint of high pressure hoses
thoroughly before reconnecting them.

Testing
Do not smoke during the test. Keep open
flame away from
work area.
If you suspect a problem with the fuel pump, check that
the fuel pump actually runs; when it is ON, you will hear
some noise if you hold your ear to the fuel fill port with
the fuel fill cap removed. The fuel pump should run for 2
seconds when ignition switch is first turned on. If the
fuel pump does not make noise, check as follows:
1. Remove the rear seat cushion (see
).
2. Disconnect the 10P connector.
CAUTION: Be sure to turn the ignition switch OFF
before disconnecting the wires.
3. Disconnect the
main relay connector and
connect the No. 2 terminal and No. 5 terminal* with
a jumper wire. *: 8P connector
