Acura RL (1996-2004 year). Manual — part 540
TCS CONTROL UNIT 20P CONNECTOR
Check the MOT circuit:
Check for continuity between the
TCS control unit 20P connector
terminal No. 19 and No. 20.
Is there continuity?
Is there continuity?
Check the TCS control valve oper-
ation:
Connect battery power to the TCS
control valve actuator connector
terminal No. 1, and ground con-
nector terminal No. 2 for one sec-
ond.
Check for an open in the MOT
circuit:
1. Disconnect the TCS control
valve actuator connector.
2. Check for continuity between
terminal No. 1 and No. 2.

Is there continuity?
YES (approx. 1.5 )
Replace the TCS control valve
assembly. (Open circuit inside
the motor)
Repair open in the MOT+ or
MOT- circuit between the TCS
control unit and TCS control
valve actuator.

PMG (BLK)
Wire side of female terminals
Repair open in the wire between
the TCS control unit and body
ground, or poor ground (G601).

CAUTION:
Be careful not to short the terminals.
After checking, disconnect the termi-
nals.
Does the TCS control valve oper-
ate smoothly?
Replace the TCS control valve
assembly.
Check for loose TCS control unit
connectors. If necessary, substi-
tute a known-good TCS control
unit and recheck.

Troubleshooting
A/T Shift Position (AT-SHIFT) Signal
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 6-1: A/T Shift Position (AT-SHIFT) Signal Diagnosis
— With engine running, TCS
indicator light is ON.
— With the SCS service connec-
tor connected (see page
), DTC 6-1 is indicated.
Check for a short to body ground
in the AT-SHIFT circuit:
1. Disconnect the PCM connec-
tor E (26P) and TCS control
unit 20P connectors.
2. Check for continuity between
the PCM connector E (26P) ter-
minal No. 6 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
Is there about 4 V?
PCM CONNECTOR E (26P)
Repair short to body ground in
the wire between the PCM and
TCS control unit.
Wire side of female terminals
NOTE: Use the 10 V range or a similar
range in the analog tester.
NOTE: Use the 10 V range or a similar range
in the analog tester.
Repair open in the wire between
the PCM and TCS control unit.

Steering Angle Sensor
Replacement
SCREW
CAUTION: Do not damage or drop the steering angle sensor as it is sensitive.
1. Remove the combination switch (see
).
2. Remove the circlip and screw, then remove the steering angle sensor from the combination switch.
3. Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
CAUTION: Do not apply any grease or oil to the steering angle sensor.
4. Perform the steering angle sensor system check.

Steering Angle Sensor System Check
1. Start the engine.
2. Push the TCS switch 3 times within 3 seconds.
3. Slowly turn the steering wheel clockwise more than 1.5 turns.
NOTE:
Start checking after the steering wheel moves at least 1.5 turns.
Turn the steering wheel slowly, no faster than 1 turn in 4 seconds.
4. Push the TCS switch twice within 3 seconds.
5. Slowly turn the steering wheel counterclockwise, and check the number of times the TCS indicator light flashes after
the wheel has moved about 1 turn.
NOTE:
Start counting after the steering wheel moves 1 turn.
Turn the steering wheel slowly, no faster than 1 turn in 4 seconds.
Always maintain the same number of rotations.
Standard number of times the TCS indicator light flashes: 3 times
6. If there is an abnormality, check the troubleshooting flowchart (see page
