CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT 8P CONNECTOR
Wire side of female terminals
Check for an open in the wire:
Check for continuity between the
No. 2 terminal of the climate con-
trol unit 8P connector and the
No. 1 terminal of the sunlight
sensor 2P connector.
SUNLIGHT SENSOR 2P CONNECTOR
Wire side of female terminals
Is there continuity?
Repair open in the wire between
the climate control unit and the
sunlight sensor.
Reconnect the 2P connector to
the sunlight sensor, and test the
sensor (see page
).
Is the sunlight sensor OK?
Replace the sunlight sensor.
Check for loose wires or poor
connections at the climate con-
trol unit 8P and 20P connectors
and at the sunlight sensor 2P
connector. If the connections are
good, substitute a known-good
climate control unit, and recheck.
If the symptom/indication goes
away, replace the original cli-
mate control unit.

Troubleshooting
Evaporator Temperature Sensor
Self-diagnosis indicator light D comes on: A problem in the evaporator temperature sensor circuit.
The evaporator temperature sensor is a temperature dependent resistor (thermistor). The resistance of the thermistor
decreases as the evaporator outlet air temperature increases.
Self-diagnosis circuit check indi-
cates a problem in the evapora-
tor temperature sensor circuit.
Is the resistance within the speci-
fications shown on the graph.
Check for a short in the wire:
1. Remove the climate control
unit (see page
), and dis-
connect the 8P and 20P con-
nectors.
2. Check for continuity between
the No. 4 terminal of the 20P
connector and body ground.
Is there continuity?

CAUTION: The sensor uses a thermistor which
can be damaged if high current is applied during
testing. Therefore, use a circuit tester with an
output of 1 mA or less at the 20 k range.
CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT 20P CONNECTOR
Wire side of female terminals
Repair short in the wire between
the climate control unit and the
evaporator temperature sensor.
Check the evaporator tempera-
ture sensor:
1. Disconnect the evaporator
temperature sensor 2P con-
nector.
2. Measure the resistance
between the No. 1 and No. 2
terminals of the evaporator
temperature sensor.

Air Mix Control Motor
Self-diagnosis indicator light E comes on: A problem in the air mix control motor circuit.
The air mix control motor regulates the mixture of cool/hot air according to output from the climate control unit.
Is the air mix control motor OK?
Check for a short in the wire(s):
1. Remove the climate control
), and dis-
connect the 8P and 20P con-
nectors.
2. Check for continuity between
body ground and the 8P con-
nector terminals No. 2 and
No. 3 individually, and between
body ground and the 20P con-
nector terminals No. 9, 10 and
15 individually.
Is there continuity?
Check the air mix control linkage
and doors:
1. Remove the air mix control
).
2. Check the air mix control link-
age and doors for smooth
movement.
Do the air mix control linkage and
doors move smoothly?
Repair the air mix control linkage
or doors.

Check the air mix control motor:
1. Disconnect the air mix control
motor 5P connector.
