Acura RL (1996-2004 year). Manual — part 427
Check Shift Solenoid Valve A for
a Short Circuit:
1. Remove the shift cable cover
from the transmission.
2. Disconnect the shift solenoid
valve/A/T clutch pressure con-
trol solenoid valve harness 4-P
connector.
3. Check for continuity between
the E12 and A26 terminals.
Is there continuity?
Measure Shift Solenoid Valve A
Resistance at the Solenoid
Connector:
Measure the resistance between
the No. 2 terminal of the shift
solenoid valve/A/T clutch pressure
control solenoid valve harness 4P
connector and body ground.
Is the resistance 12-25
Check the VB SOL Voltage:
1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
2. Measure the voltage between
the E1 and A26 terminals.
Is there voltage?
Repair short to ground in the wire
between the E12 terminal and the
shift solenoid valve A.
Check for open in the wire
between the E12 terminal and the
shift solenoid valve A.
Check for open in the wire
between the E1 terminal and the
under-hood fuse/relay box.

Troubleshooting Flowchart — Shift Solenoid Valve B
• OBD II Scan Tool indicates Code
P0758.
• Self-diagnosis indicator light
blinks eight times.
Possible Cause
• Disconnected shift solenoid
valve B connector
• Short or open in shift solenoid
valve B wire
• Faulty shift solenoid valve B
• Open VB SOL line
Check for a Short to Power:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect the A (26P) and
E (26P) connectors from the
PCM.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
4. Measure the voltage between
the E25 and A26 terminals.
Is there voltage?
Repair short to power in the wire
between the E25 terminal and
the shift solenoid valve B.
Measure Shift Solenoid Valve B
Resistance:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Measure the resistance
between the E25 and A26 ter-
minals.
Is the resistance 12-25
Check for loose PCM connectors.
If necessary, substitute a known-
good solenoid valves A and B or
PCM and recheck.

Troubleshooting Flowchart — Countershaft Speed Sensor
• OBD II Scan Tool indicates Code
P0720.
• Self-diagnosis indicator
light blinks nine times.
Check the countershaft speed
sensor installation.
Is the countershaft speed sen-
sor installed properly?
Measure Countershaft Speed
Sensor Resistance at the Sensor
Connector:
1. Disconnect the 3P connector
from the countershaft speed
sensor.
2. Measure the resistance of the
countershaft speed sensor.
Is the resistance 400 - 600
Check Countershaft Speed
Sensor for a Short Circuit:
1. Disconnect the E (26P) connec-
tor from the PCM.
2. Check for continuity between
the body ground and the E5
terminal and E18 terminal
individually.
Possible Cause
• Loose or faulty connection
between the PCM and vehicle
harness
• Disconnected countershaft
speed sensor connector
• Short or open in countershaft
speed sensor wire
• Faulty countershaft speed sen-
sor
Reinstall and recheck.
