Troubleshooting
DTC 1-2: Pump Motor (cont'd)
NOTE: The MCK (motor check) circuit is
checked beginning with this step.
UNDER-HOOD FUSE/RELAY BOX
7P CONNECTOR
Replace the under-hood fuse/
relay box.
(Open circuit inside the box)
Wire side of female terminals
Check for an open in the MCK cir-
cuit:
Measure the voltage between the
ABS control unit 26P connector
terminal No. 17 and body ground.
ABS CONTROL UNIT 26P CONNECTOR
Is there about 10V?
Repair open in the wire between
the under-hood fuse/relay box
and ABS control unit.
Wire side of female terminals
Check for loose ABS control unit
connectors. If necessary, substi-
tute a known-good ABS control
unit and recheck.
Check for an open in the under-
hood fuse/relay box:
1. Disconnect the under-hood
fuse/relay box 7P connector.
2. Measure the voltage between
terminal No. 3 and body
ground.
Is there about 10 V?

Check for a short in the under-
hood fuse/relay box:
1. Remove the ABS pump motor
relay.
2. Disconnect the under-hood
fuse/relay box 5P connector.
3. Check for continuity between
the ABS pump motor relay
connector PMR terminal and
body ground.
Is there continuity?
Check for a short in the PMR cir-
cuit:
1. Disconnect the ABS control
unit 22P connector.
2. Check for continuity between
t e r m i n a l No. 21 and body
ground.
NOTE:
Short to body ground in the ABS pump
motor relay coil circuit is checked beginning
with this step.
If the motor relay coil is shorted to body
ground, the motor may be damaged. Check
the pump motor operation.
UNDER-HOOD FUSE/RELAY BOX
PMR TERMINAL
Replace the under-hood fuse/
relay box.
(Short circuit inside the box)
ABS CONTROL UNIT 22P CONNECTOR
Is there continuity?
Repair short to body ground in the
wire between the under-hood
fuse/relay box and ABS control
unit.
Wire side of female terminals
Check for loose ABS control unit
connectors. If necessary, substi-
tute a known-good ABS control
unit and recheck.

Troubleshooting
DTC 1-3: High-Pressure Leakage
The ABS control unit counts the number of times that the ABS pump motor operates and stops during regular diagnosis.
When the ABS pump motor repeatedly operates and stops, the ABS control unit determines that the high-pressure system
is leaking and turns the ABS indicator light on. This count is reset when the ABS functions.
Possible causes:
Leaking outlet valve
Leaking relief valve
Poor contact in pressure switch circuit
Is there leakage?
Check the modulator reservoir
and the accumulator for brake
fluid leakage, and repair as nec-
essary-
Tighten the modulator unit fit-
ting.
Replace the modulator unit if it
cannot be repaired.
Check the pressure switch opera-
tion:
Start the engine.
Does the ABS pump motor
operate?
Wait for the accumulator gas to
cool:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF
after the ABS pump motor
stops, and wait for 30 minutes.
2. Restart the engine.
Wait until the ABS pump motor
stops.
Does the ABS pump motor
operate?
Check the modulator unit for brake
fluid leakage.
With engine running, ABS indi-
cator light is ON.
With the SCS service connec-
tor connected (see page
),
DTC 1-3 is indicated.

Check the outlet valve and relief
valve for leakage:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect the modulator unit
14P connector.
3. After 30 minutes, check for con-
tinuity between terminals No. 4
and No. 11.
Is there continuity?
Replace the modulator unit.
Leaking outlet valve
Leaking relief valve
Wire side of female terminals
Intermittent failure, system is OK
at this time. Check for loose con-
nectors and terminals in the pres-
sure switch circuit.
