DTC 4-3

CAUTION: Whenever the ignition switch is ON (II), or
has been turned OFF for less than 3 minutes, be careful
not to bump the SRS unit or the side impact sensor; the

airbags could accidentally deploy and cause damage or

injuries.

Try to reproduce the SRS indicator light:

1. Erase the DTC memory (see page

24-87

).

2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the SRS

indicator light comes on for about 6 seconds, and then
goes off.

Check for a short to another wire in the SRS floor harness:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the driver's and front passenger's side airbag

connectors, then disconnect the driver's airbag connec-
tor (see page

24-95

,

24-96

).

3. Disconnect the SRS floor harness 18P connector from

the SRS unit (see page

24-92

).

4. Disconnect the special tool from the SRS floor har-

ness 2P connector (see page

24-96

).

5. Check resistance between the No. 6 and No. 17 terminals

of the SRS floor harness 18P connector. There should be

1 or more.

Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. See

Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures on page

24-87

.

Check for a short to another wire in the front passenger's
seat belt tensioner:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the right side wire harness 2P connector from

the front passenger's seat belt tensioner 2P connector (see

page

24-95

).

3. Connect the special tool to the right side wire har-

ness 2P connector (see page

24-95

).

4. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
5. Erase the DTC memory (see page

24-87

).

6. Read the DTC (see page

24-84

).

Short to another wire in the front passenger's seat belt

tensioner; replace the front passenger's seat belt (see
page

24-165

).

Check for a short to another wire in the right side wire har-

ness:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the SRS floor harness 2P connector from the

right side wire harness 2P connector (see page

24-96

).

3. Connect the special tool (2 0) to the SRS floor harness 2P

connector (see page

24-96

).

4. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
5. Erase the DTC memory (see page

24-87

).

6. Read the DTC (see page

24-84

).

Faulty SRS unit; replace the SRS unit (see page

24-181

).

Troubleshooting - '99 - 01 Models

Check for a short to power in the SRS floor harness:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the driver's and front passenger's side airbag

connectors, then disconnect the driver's airbag connec-
tor (see page

24-95

,

24-96

).

3. Disconnect the SRS floor harness 18P connector from

the SRS unit (see page

24-92

).

4. Check resistance between the No. 6 and No. 7 terminals

of the SRS floor harness 18P connector, and between the
No. 6 and No. 8 terminals of the SRS floor harness 18P
connector. There should be 1 or more.

Try to reproduce the SRS indicator light:

1. Erase the DTC memory (see page

24-87

).

2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the SRS

indicator light comes on for about 6 seconds, and then

goes off.

Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. See
Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures on page

24-87

.

Check for a short to power in the front passenger's seat belt
tenstoner:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the right side wire harness 2P connector from

the front passenger's seat belt tensioner 2P connector (see

page

24-95

).

3. Connect the special tool to the right side wire har-

ness 2P connector (see page

24-95

).

4. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
5. Erase the DTC memory (see page

24-87

).

6. Read the DTC (see page

24-84

).

Short to power in the front passenger's seat belt ten-
sioner; replace the front passenger's seat belt (see page

24-165

).

Check for a short to power in the right side wire harness:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait for 3

minutes.

2. Disconnect the SRS floor harness 2P connector from the

right side wire harness 2P connector (see page

24-96

).

3. Connect the special tool to the SRS floor harness 2P

connector (see page

24-96

).

4. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
5. Erase the DTC memory (see page

24-87

).

6. Read the DTC (see page

24-84

).

Faulty SRS unit; replace the SRS unit (see page

cial tool from the SRS floor harness 2P connector

).

4. Check resistance between the No. 6 terminal of the SRS

floor harness 18P connector and body ground, and
between the No. 6 and No. 12 terminals of the SRS floor
harness 18P connector, and between the No. 6 and No.

11 terminals of the SRS floor harness 18P connector.

There should be 1 or more.

Try to reproduce the SRS indicator light:

1. Erase the DTC memory (see page

24-87

).

2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the SRS

indicator light comes on for about 6 seconds, and then
goes off.
