Troubleshooting
ABS Indicator Light Does Not Come On
The ABS indicator light does not come on when the ignition switch is turned ON
When the ignition switch is turned ON (II), the ABS indicator light drive transistor in the ABS control unit is activated by
self-bias and turns the ABS indicator light on.
Possible causes for an ABS indicator light that does not come on:
Blown METER (15 A) fuse or METER (7.5 A) fuse
Meter relay stuck OFF
Open circuit between the METER (15 A) fuse and ABS indicator light
Open circuit between the METER (7.5 A) fuse and body ground
Blown ABS indicator light bulb
Open circuit between the ABS indicator light and ABS control unit
Open circuit between the ABS control unit and body ground
Poor body ground
Faulty ABS control unit
The ABS indicator light does not
come on when the ignition switch
is turned ON (II).
Check the METER (15 A) fuse
in the under-hood fuse/relay box
and the METER (7.5 A) fuse in the
under-dash fuse/realy box.
NOTE: If the brake system light comes on, the
circuit between the battery and gauge assem-
bly is OK.
Are the fuses OK?
Replace the fuse and recheck.
NOTE: Reinstall the fuses if they are OK.
GAUGE ASSEMBLY 22P CONNECTOR
Check for an open in the IG1 cir-
cuit:
1. Disconnect the gauge assem-
bly 22P connector.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
3. Measure the voltage between
the gauge assembly 22P con-
nector terminal No. 22 and
body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
Meter relay stuck OFF.
Repair open in the wire between
the METER (15 A) fuse in the
under-hood fuse/relay box and
gauge assembly.
Repair open in the wire between
the METER (7.5 A) fuse in the
under-dash fuse/relay box and
body ground.
Replace the under-hood fuse/
relay box or under-dash fuse/
relay box. (Open circuit inside
the fuse/relay box)
Wire side of female terminals
Is the bulb OK?
Replace the ABS indicator light
bulb.
Check the ABS indicator light bulb
in the gauge assembly.

Troubleshooting
ABS Indicator Light Does Not Come On (cont'd)
Check the gauge assembly:
1. Connect the gauge assembly
22P connector.
2. Connect the gauge assembly
30P connector terminal No. 22
to body ground with a jumper
wire.
Does the ABS indicator light
come on?
Check for an open in the WARN
circuit:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect the ABS control
unit 22P and 26P connectors.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
4. Connect the ABS control unit
22P connector terminal No. 20
or 26P connector terminal No.
24 to body ground with a
jumper wire.
Does the ABS indicator light
come on?
Check for an open in the L-GND
circuit:
1. Connect the ABS control unit
22P and 26P connectors.
2. Connect the ABS control unit
22P connector terminal No. 22
or 26P connector terminal No.
26 to body ground with a
jumper wire.
Does the ABS indicator light
come on?
GAUGE ASSEMBLY 30P CONNECTOR
Replace the printed circuit board
in the gauge assembly.
Repair open in the wire between
the gauge assembly and ABS con-
trol unit.
Repair open in the two wires
between the ABS control unit
and body ground.
Repair poor ground (G 404).

connectors. If necessary, substi-
tute a known-good ABS control
unit and recheck.

ABS Indicator Light Does Not Go Off (No DTC)
The ABS indicator light does not go off after the engine is started
When no problem is found during the initial diagnosis, the ABS control unit turns the ABS indicator light drive transistor
off to turn the ABS indicator light off.
Possible causes for an ABS indicator light that does not go off, but no Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is indicated:
Blown R/C MIRROR (7.5 A) fuse
Open circuit between the under-dash fuse/relay box and ABS control unit
Open circuit between the battery and under-hood fuse/relay box
Blown ABS B2 (15 A) fuse
Open circuit inside the under-hood fuse/relay box
Open circuit between the under-hood fuse/relay box and ABS control unit
Faulty alternator
Open circuit between the alternator and ABS control unit
Short to body ground in the WARN circuit between the ABS indicator light and ABS control unit
Faulty ABS control unit
With engine running, ABS
indicator light is ON.
With the SCS service connec-
tor connected (see page
),
no DTC is indicated.
Check the charging system:
Start the engine and check the
charging system indicator light.
Does it go off?
Check the IG2 power source fuse:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Check the R/C MIRROR (7.5 A)
fuse in the under-dash fuse/
relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
Check the ABS B2 (15 A) fuse in
the under-hood fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
Check the charging system (see
section 4).
Replace the fuse and recheck.
UNDER-HOOD FUSE/RELAY BOX
NOTE: Reinstall the fuse if it is OK.
Replace the fuse and recheck.
NOTE: Reinstall the fuse if it is OK.
