Acura RL (1996-2004 year). Manual — part 383
Back up Circuit
('00 - 01 model) The scan tool indicates Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0560: Low Voltage in PCM Back up
Circuit.
NOTE: If the BACK UP RADIO (7.5 A) fuse is removed and the ignition switch ON (II), MIL will report on and PCM will store
the DTC P0560.
— The MIL has been reported on
— DTCP0560
Problem verification:
1. Do the PCM Reset Procedure.
2. Start the engine.
Is DTC P0560 indicated?
YES
Intermittent failure, system is OK
at this time. Check for poor con-
nections or loose wires at BACK
UP RADIO (7.5 A) fuse and PCM.
Check the fuse:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Inspect the BACK UP RADIO
(7.5 A) fuse in the under-hood
fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
NO
YES
— Repair short in the wire
between the ECM (D1) and
BACK UP RADIO (7.5 A) fuse.
— Repair short in the wire the
other back up circuit (see
Power Distribution).
— Replace the BACK UP RADIO
(7.5 A) fuse.
PCM CONNECTOR D (22P)
Check for an open in the wire
(VBU line):
Measure voltage between the
PCM connector terminal D1 and
body ground.
Wire side of female terminals
Is there battery voltage?
YES
Repair open in the wire between
PCM (D1) and BUCK UP RADIO
(7.5 A) fuse.
Substitute a known-good PCM
and recheck (see page
for
immobilizer information). If symp-
tom/indication goes away, replace
the original PCM.

NOTE: If DTC P1318 and/or P1319 are stored at the same time as DTC P1316 and/or P1317, troubleshoot those DTCs first,
then troubleshoot DTC P1316 and/or P1317.
— The MIL has been reported on.
— DTC P1316 and/or P1317 are
stored.
Problem verification:
1. Do the PCM Reset Procedure.
2. Start the engine. Hold the
engine at 3,000 rpm with no
load (in Park or neutral) until
the radiator fan comes on,
then let it idle.
Is DTC P1316 and/or P1317
indicated?
YES
Check for a short in the wire
(MFPLSL or MFPLSR* line):
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect the spark plug
voltage detection module 8P
connector.
3. Disconnect the PCM connec-
tor F (8P) from the PCM.
4. Check for continuity between
the PCM connector terminal
F8 (F4*) and body ground.
Is there continuity?
NO
Check for an open in the wire
(MFPLSL or MFPLSR* line):
Check for continuity between the
PCM connector terminal F8 (F4*)
and spark plug voltage detection
module 8P connector terminal
No. 6 (No. 3*).
Is there continuity?
YES
Check for an open in the wire
(GNDL or GNDR* line):
Check for continuity between the
s p a r k plug v o l t a g e detection
module 8P connector terminal
No. 8 (No. 1*) and body ground.
PCM CONNNECTOR F (8P)
