DTC 81: VSA Control Unit
Is DTC 81 indicated?
Intermittent failure; the vehicle is
OK at this time.
Problem verification:
1. Clear the DTC.
2. Test drive the vehicle.
3. Verify the DTC.
Replace the VSA modulator-
control unit.

DTC 82: Wheel Speed Internal Circuit
Is DTC 82 indicated?
Intermittent failure; the vehicle is
OK at this time.
Problem verification:
1. Clear the DTC.
2. Test drive the vehicle.
3. Verify the DTC.
Replace the VSA modulator-
control unit.

DTC 83: VSA Inhibition
Is DTC 35 or 36 indicated?
when the DTC 35
is indicated.
when the DTC 36
is indicated.
NOTE: Perform the PGM-FI troubleshooting when a
PGM-FI DTC other than 35 and 36 indicated.
Check the PCM (TC STB):
1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
2. Measure the voltage between
the PCM connector C (12P) ter-
minal No. 12 and body ground.
PCM CONNECTOR C (12P)
Is there about 5 V?
Replace the PCM.
Wire side of female terminals
Check the PCM (TC FC):
Measure the voltage between the
PCM connector C (12P) terminal
No. 10 and body ground.
Is there about 2.5 V?
Replace the PCM.
Check for loose terminals in the
VSA converter unit 26P connec-
tor. If necessary, substitute a
known-good VSA converter unit,
and recheck.
Check for a PGM-FI DTC (see
).

DTC 83: VSA Inhibition (cont'd)
Check for a short to body ground
in the TC STB circuit:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect the PCM connec-
tor C (12P) and the VSA con-
verter unit 26P connector.
3. Check for continuity between
the VSA converter unit 26P
connector terminal No. 24
and body ground.
Is there continuity?
Check for a short to body ground
in the TC FC circuit:
Check for continuity between the
VSA converter unit 26P connector
terminal No. 22 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
Check the VSA converter unit
(TC STB):
1. Connect the VSA converter
unit 26P connector and the
PCM connector C (12P).
2. Raise the front of the vehicle,
and support it with safety
stands.
3. Start the engine.
4. Measure the voltage between
the VSA converter unit 26P
connector terminal No. 24
and body ground.
Is the voltage as specified?
— VSA is functioning: about O V
— VSA is not functioning: about
5 V
VSA CONVERTER UNIT 26P CONNECTOR
Wire side of female terminals
Repair short to body ground in
the wire between the PCM and
the VSA converter unit.
Repair short to body ground in
the wire between the PCM and
the VSA converter unit.
Check for loose terminals in the
VSA converter unit 26P connec-
tor. If necessary, substitute a
known-good VSA converter unit,
and recheck.
NOTE: Stop the wheels by pressing the
brake pedal lightly.
