Installing the sector shaft oil seal on the
pitman arm side
1.

Fit a new sector shaft oil seal (2) in the

steering box (3) using special tool

(DAF no. 1329453).

2.

Apply clean grease with the specified DAF

specification (melting point >130

C) to the

needle bearing (4).

3.

Apply grease with the specified DAF

specification (melting point >130

C) to the

rear side of the new dirt/water seal (5) and fit

the dirt/water seal (5) into the steering box..

4.

Stick adhesive tape to the sector shaft

groove teeth (1) (see arrow in drawing). This

tape will prevent damage to the sector shaft

oil seal when fitting the sector shaft in the

steering box.

5.

Check whether the piston is still in its central

position, so that the middle sector shaft tooth

engages the correct piston teeth.

If the piston is not in its central

position during the sector shaft

assembly, the steering turn to one

side will become very small. This

may lead to dangerous situations.

6.

Install the sector shaft (1) into the steering

box (3).
