Harness side

Connector: E-06

Disconnect E-06 rear power window sub switch (RH)
connector, and recheck whether diagnosis code No.
U1570 is set.
(1) Connect all the relevant ECUs, and disconnect E-

06 rear power window sub switch (RH) connector
only.

(2) Erase the diagnosis code.
(3) Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF) to

"ON" position.

(4) Check whether diagnosis code No. U1570 is set.

NOTE: If diagnosis code No. U1570 is not set,
diagnosis code No. U1511 is set because the
rear power window sub switch (RH) is discon-
nected. This is normal.

(5) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF)

position.

Q: Is diagnosis code No. U1570 set?

YES :

Reconnect the rear power window sub

switch (RH) connector, and go to Step 10.

NO :

Replace the rear power window sub switch
(RH).

STEP 10. Check the rear panel power window-
ECU.

AC901129

Connector: D-11

AN

Harness side

Disconnect D-11 rear panel power window-ECU con-
nector, and recheck whether diagnosis code No.
U1570 is set.
(1) Connect all the relevant ECUs, and disconnect

D-11 rear panel power window-ECU connector

only.

(2) Erase the diagnosis code.
(3) Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF) to

"ON" position.

(4) Check whether diagnosis code No. U1570 is set.

NOTE: If diagnosis code No. U1570 is not set,
diagnosis code No. U1512 is set because the
rear panel power window-ECU is disconnected.
This is normal.

(5) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF)

position.

Q: Is diagnosis code No. U1570 set?

YES :

Reconnect the rear panel power window-

ECU connector, and go to Step 11.

NO :

Replace the rear panel power window-ECU.

STEP 11. Recheck for diagnosis code.
Check again if the diagnosis code is set to the
ETACS-ECU.
(1) Erase the diagnosis code.
(2) Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF) to

"ON" position.

(3) Check whether diagnosis code No. U1570 is set.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF)

position.

Q: Is the diagnosis code set?

YES :

Replace the ETACS-ECU and register the

ID codes (Refer to GROUP 54A,
Immobilizer System

− On-vehicle service ).

NO :

The trouble can be an intermittent
malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00

− How to

Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).

GENERAL INFORMATION

CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN)

54C-2

GENERAL INFORMATION

M1548310001550

CAN, an abbreviation for Controller Area Network, is
an ISO-certified international standard for a serial
multiplex communication protocol

*1

. A communica-

tion circuit employing the CAN protocol connects
each ECU, and sensor data can be shared among,
which enables more reduction in wiring.

CAN offers the following advantages.

• Transmission rates are much faster than those in

conventional communication (up to 1 Mbps

*2

),

allowing much more data to be sent.

• It is exceptionally immune to noise, and the data

obtained from each error detection device is more
reliable.

• Each ECU connected via the CAN communicates

independently, therefore if the ECU enters dam-
aged mode, communications can be continued in
some cases.

NOTE:

.

*1

: The regulations have been decided in detail,

from software matters such as the necessary
transmission rate for communication, the system,
data format, and communication timing control
method to hardware matters such as the harness
type and length and the resistance values.

*2

: bps=bit per second

NOTE:
*: ABS-ECU <vehicles with ABS>
ASTC-ECU <vehicles with ASTC>

• The CAN bus line consists of two lines, CAN_L

and CAN_H (CAN Low and CAN High, respec-
tively), as well as two terminal resistors (A
twisted-pair cable, highly resistant to noise, is
used for the communications line).

• The CAN bus line connecting the two terminal

resistors is the main bus line, and the CAN bus
line connecting each ECU is the sub-bus line.

• The terminal resistors are installed in the engine-

ECU and ETACS-ECU to stabilize communica-
tion signals (The terminal resistance is set at
approximately 120

Ω).

• The following components are connected in the

CAN bus line as follows.

• Engine-ECU

• A/T-ECU <A/T>

• A/C-ECU <vehicles with automatic-A/C>

• ABS-ECU <vehicles with ABS>

• ASTC-ECU <vehicles with ASTC>
