TROUBLESHOOTING
ACTIVE STABILITY & TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM (ASTC)
35C-116
CAUTION
If there is any problem in the CAN bus lines, an
incorrect diagnosis code may be set. Diagnose
the CAN bus lines before the diagnosis codes
(Refer to GROUP 54C
− CAN Bus Diagnostics
Table .).
OPERATION
• ASTC-ECU send the illumination signal of Brake
warning lamp to the combination meter via the
CAN communication.
• ASTC-ECU operates the Brake warning lamp
and the Brake warning lamp for three seconds
after the ignition switch is turned "ON" position for
bulb check.
COMMENT
This may be caused by faults in the signal line, the
combination meter or the ASTC-ECU.
PROBABLE CAUSES
• Malfunction of the combination meter
TROUBLESHOOTING
ACTIVE STABILITY & TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM (ASTC)
35C-117
• Damaged wiring harness and connectors
• Malfunction of the hydraulic unit assembly (inte-
grated with ASTC-ECU)
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE
STEP 1. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics
Use M.U.T.-III to diagnose the CAN bus lines.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES :
Go to Step 2.
NO :
Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP
54C
− CAN Bus Diagnostics Table .). Then
go to Step 13.
STEP 2. Brake fluid level check
Check that the brake fluid is filled up to the "MIN"
level or higher.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES :
Go to Step 4.
NO :
Go to Step 3.
STEP 3. Brake pad check
Refer to GROUP 35A
− On-vehicle Service, Brake
Pad Check .
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES :
Fill the brake fluid up to the "MAX" level.
Then go to Step 12.
NO :
Replace the brake pad. (Refer to GROUP
35A
− On-vehicle Service, Brake Pad
Replacement .). Then go to Step 13.
STEP 4. Brake fluid level sensor check
Refer to GROUP 35A
− On-vehicle Service, Brake
Fluid Level Sensor Check .
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES :
Go to Step 5.
NO :
Replace the brake fluid level sensor (Refer
to GROUP 35A
− Master Cylinder Assembly
and Brake Booster Assembly .) .Then go to
Step 13.
STEP 5. Connector check: A-48 ASTC-ECU
connector, A-102 brake fluid level switch
connector, C-13 intermediate connector, C-14
intermediate connector, C-15 intermediate
connector, C-47 parking brake switch connector
<stick type>, C-113 combination meter
connector, D-19 parking brake switch connector
<lever type>
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES :
Go to Step 6.
NO :
Repair or replace it. Then go to Step 13.
STEP 6. Check the wiring harness between A-102
brake fluid level switch connector and C-113
combination meter connector for short to earth.
Check the wiring harness between A-102 brake fluid
level switch connector terminal No.1 and C-113 com-
bination meter connector terminal No.12 for short to
earth.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES :
Go to Step 7.
NO :
Repair the wiring harness between the A-
102 brake fluid level switch connector
terminal No.1 and the C-113 combination
meter connector terminal No.12. Then go to
Step 13.
STEP 7. Check for open circuit in the wiring
harness between A-48 ASTC-ECU connector and
C-113 combination meter connector.
Check for open circuit in the wiring harness between
A-48 ASTC-ECU connector terminal No.5 and C-113
combination meter connector terminal No.17.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES :
Go to Step 8.
NO :
Repair the wiring harness between the A-48
ASTC-ECU terminal No.5 and the C-113
combination meter connector terminal
No.17. Then go to Step 13.
STEP 8. Parking brake switch check
Refer to GROUP 36
− On-vehicles Service, Parking
Brake Switch Check <lever type>, <stick type>.
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES :
Go to Step 9.
NO :
Replace it. Then go to Step 13.
STEP 9. Resistance measurement at C-113
combination meter connector
(1) Disconnect the C-113 combination meter
connector and measure the harness-side
connector.
(2) Keep the parking brake stick <stick type> or
parking brake lever <lever type> released from
being pulled.
(3) Measure the resistance between the C-113
combination meter connector terminal No.12 and
the body earth.
OK: No continuity
Q: Is the check result normal?
TROUBLESHOOTING
ACTIVE STABILITY & TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM (ASTC)
35C-118
YES :
Go to Step 10.
NO :
A short circuit may be present in the signal
line circuit. Repair the wiring harness
between the C-113 combination meter
connector terminal No.12 and the A-102
brake fluid level switch connector terminal
No.1 and C-47 parking brake switch
connector terminal No.1 <stick type> or D-
19 parking brake switch connector terminal
No.1 <lever type>. Then go to Step 13.
STEP 10. Brake fluid level sensor check
Refer to GROUP 35A
− On-vehicles Service, Brake
Fluid Level Sensor Check .
Q: Is the check result normal?
YES :
Go to Step 11.
NO :
Repair it. Then go to Step 13.
STEP 11. M.U.T.-III other diagnosis code
Check whether the diagnosis code is set by the com-
bination meter assembly.
Q: Is any diagnosis code set?
YES :
Refer to Diagnosis Code Chart (Refer to .).

Q: Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position. Does
the brake warning lamp illuminate for three
seconds, and then go out after the engine starts?
YES :
The procedure is complete.
NO :
Replace the hydraulic unit (integrated with
ASTC-ECU) (Refer to
.). Then go
to Step 13.
STEP 13. Retest the system
