INSPECTION PROCEDURE FOR TROUBLE SYMPTOMS
INSPECTION PROCEDURE 1
Communication with MUT-
II
is not possible.
(Communication with all systems is not possible.)
Probable cause
The cause is probably a defect in the power supply system (including earth) for
the diagnosis line.
Malfunction of the connector
Malfunction of the harness wire
Malfunction of MUT-
II
Measure at the diagnostic connector
(16-pin) B-35.
Voltage between 16 and earth
OK: System voltage
NG
Check the following connectors:
B-75, B-81
NG
Repair
OK
Check trouble symptom.
NG
Check the harness wire between the
power supply and diagnostic connector
(16-pin), and repair if necessary.
OK
Measure at the diagnostic connector
(16-pin) B-35.
Continuity between 4 and earth
Continuity between 5 and earth
OK: Continuity
NG
Check the harness wire between the
diagnostic connector (16-pin) and
earth, and repair if necessary.
OK
Replace the MUT-
II
.
INSPECTION PROCEDURE 2
MUT-
II
communication with engine-ECU (engine-
A/T-ECU) is impossible.
Probable cause
One of the following causes may be suspected.
No power supply to engine-ECU <M/T> or engine-A/T-ECU <A/T>.
Defective earth circuit of engine-ECU <M/T> or engine-A/T-ECU <A/T>.
Defective engine-ECU <M/T> or engine-A/T-ECU <A/T>.
Improper communication line between engine-ECU <M/T> or engine-A/T-ECU
<A/T> and MUT-
II
Malfunction of engine-ECU <M/T> or engine-A/T-ECU
<A/T> power supply circuit
Malfunction of engine-ECU <M/T> or engine-A/T-ECU
<A/T>
Open circuit between the engine-ECU <M/T> or
engine-A/T-ECU <A/T> and diagnosis connector
NG
Check the harness wire between engine-ECU <M/T> or engine-
A/T-ECU <A/T> and diagnosis connector.
NG
Repair
OK
Check trouble symptom.
Check the following connectors:
B-87<M/T>, B-86<A/T>, B-09, B-35, B-60X, B-61X
NG
Repair
OK
Check the engine-ECU (engine-A/T-ECU) power supply and earth
circuit system.
(Refer to P.13A-90, INSPECTION PROCEDURE 25.)
NOTE
On vehicles with multi center display, if a malfunction cannot be resolved after the procedure above, check the multi
center display and replace if necessary. (Refer to GROUP 54 – Multi Center display.)

INSPECTION PROCEDURE 3
The engine warning lamp does not illuminate right after
the ignition switch is turned to the ON position.
Probable cause
Because there is a burnt-out bulb, the engine-ECU <M/T> or engine-A/T-ECU <A/T>
causes the engine warning lamp to illuminate for five seconds immediately after
the ignition switch is turned to ON. If the engine warning lamp does not illuminate
immediately after the ignition switch is turned to ON, one of the malfunctions listed
at right has probably occurred.
Burnt-out bulb
Defective warning lamp circuit
Malfunction of the engine-ECU <M/T>
Malfunction of the engine-A/T-ECU <A/T>
MUT-
II
Data list
16 engine-ECU (engine-A/T-ECU) power supply voltage (Refer
to P.13A-99.)
NG
Check the engine-ECU (engine-A/T-ECU) power supply and earth
circuit system.
(Refer to P.13A-90, INSPECTION PROCEDURE 25.)
OK
Measure at the engine-ECU connector B-84 <M/T> or engine-
A/T-ECU connector B-84 <A/T>.
Disconnect the connector, and measure at the harness side.

OK
Measure at the combination meter connector B-01.
Disconnect the connector, and measure at the harness side.
Voltage between 49 and earth (Ignition switch: ON)
OK: System voltage
NG
Check the engine warning lamp power supply circuit, and repair
if necessary.
OK
Check the following connectors:
B-02, B-19, B-84
NG
Repair
OK
Check trouble symptom.
NG
Check the harness wire between combination meter and engine-
ECU <M/T> or engine-A/T-ECU <A/T>, and repair if necessary.
INSPECTION PROCEDURE 4
The engine warning lamp remains illuminating and never
goes out.
Probable cause
In cases such as the above, the cause is probably that the engine-ECU <M/T>
or engine-A/T-ECU <A/T> is detecting a problem in a sensor or actuator, or that
one of the malfunctions listed at right has occurred.
Short-circuit between the engine warning lamp and
engine-ECU
Malfunction of the engine-ECU <M/T>
Malfunction of the engine-A/T-ECU <A/T>
MUT-
II
Self-Diag code
Are diagnosis codes displayed?
Yes
Refer to P.13A-12, INSPECTION CHART FOR DIAGNOSIS
CODES.
No
Measure at the combination meter connector B-02.
Disconnect the connector, and measure at the harness side.
Disconnect the engine-ECU connector <M/T> or
engine-A/T-ECU connector <A/T>
Continuity between 4 and earth
OK: No continuity
NG
Check the harness wire between combination meter and engine-
ECU <M/T> or engine-A/T-ECU <A/T> connector, and repair if
necessary.
OK
Replace the engine-ECU <M/T> or engine-A/T-ECU <A/T>.
