ACTION
APPLICABILITY

Turn the ignition off.
Place the vehicle on a hoist that will allow all 4 wheels to rotate freely.
Connect a 700 kPa (100 PSI) transmission pressure gauge to the governor pressure
test port.
Start the engine.
Allow the transmission to reach normal operating temperature.
WARNING: Ensure all 4 wheels do not touch the ground.
Place the gear selector lever in Neutral with the wheels not turning and observe the
pressure gauge.
NOTE: The pressure gauge should read less than 20.6 kPa (3 PSI).
Bring the vehicle speed slowly to 40 km/h (25 MPH) and observe the pressure gauge
again.
NOTE: The pressure gauge should read 110-165 kPa (16-24 PSI).
Are both pressure gauge readings what they are supposed to be?
All
Yes
→
Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accor-
dance with the Service Information.
Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.
No
→
Replace the Governor Pressure Solenoid (part of the Transmis-
sion Solenoid Assembly) in accordance with the Service Informa-
tion.
Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.

Turn the ignition off.
Remove the transmission oil pan.
Disconnect the Governor Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor connector.
Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary
Turn the ignition on.
Measure the voltage between ground and the 5-volt Supply circuit in the Governor
Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor connector.
Is the voltage above 5.5 volts?
All
Yes
→
No
→

Turn the ignition off.
Replace the Transmission Solenoid Assembly in accordance with the Service Infor-
mation.
Reconnect all harness connectors except the Governor Pressure/Transmission Tem-
perature Sensor connector.
Turn the ignition on.
Measure the voltage of the 5-volt Supply circuit in the Governor Pressure/
Transmission Temperature Sensor connector.
Is the voltage between 4.8 volts and 5.5 volts?
All
Yes
→
The repair is complete.
Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.
No
→
Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accor-
dance with the Service Information.
Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.

Turn the ignition off.
Remove the transmission oil pan.
Disconnect the Governor Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor connector.
NOTE: Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
Turn the ignition on.
Measure the voltage of the Governor Pressure Sensor Signal circuit in the Governor
Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor connector.
Is the voltage above 5.5 volts?
All
Yes
→
Replace the Transmission Solenoid Assembly in accordance with
the Service Information.
Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.
No
→

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector.
Remove the transmission oil pan.
Disconnect the Governor Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor connector.
Measure the resistance between the Governor Pressure Sensor Signal circuit and
5-volt Supply circuit in the Governor Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor
connector.
Is the resistance above 100 kohms?
All
Yes
→
No
→
Replace the Transmission Solenoid Assembly in accordance with
the Service Information.
Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector.
Remove the transmission oil pan.
Disconnect the Governor Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor connector.
NOTE: Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
Measure the resistance of the Governor Pressure Sensor Signal circuit between the
Transmission Solenoid Assembly connector (transmission side) and the Governor
Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
All
Yes
→
No
→
Replace the Transmission Solenoid Assembly in accordance with
the Service Information.
Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.

Turn the ignition off.
Remove the transmission oil pan.
Disconnect the Governor Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor connector.
Measure the resistance between ground and the Governor Pressure Sensor Signal
circuit in the Governor Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor connector.
Is the resistance above 100 kohms?
All
Yes
→
No
→
Replace the Transmission Solenoid Assembly in accordance with
the Service Information.
Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.

Sensor Ground circuit in the Governor Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor
connector.
Is the resistance above 100 kohms?
All
Yes
→
No
→
Replace the Transmission Solenoid Assembly in accordance with
the Service Information.
Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector.
Remove the transmission oil pan.
Disconnect the Governor Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor connector.
Measure the resistance of the 5-volt Supply circuit between the Governor Pressure/
Transmission Temperature Sensor connector and the Transmission Solenoid Assem-
bly connector (transmission side).
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
All
Yes
→
No
→
Replace the Transmission Solenoid Assembly in accordance with
the Service Information.
Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.

Turn the ignition off.
Remove the transmission oil pan.
Disconnect the Governor Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor connector.
Measure the resistance between ground and the 5-volt Supply circuit in the Governor
Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor connector.
Is the resistance above 100 kohms?
All
Yes
→
No
→
Replace the Transmission Solenoid Assembly in accordance with
the Service Information.
Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.

Turn the ignition off.
Remove the transmission oil pan.
Disconnect the Governor Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor connector.
Measure the resistance between the 5-volt Supply circuit and the Sensor Ground
circuit in the Governor Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor connector.
Is the resistance above 100 kohms?
All
Yes
→
No
→
Replace the Transmission Solenoid Assembly in accordance with
the Service Information.
Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector.
Remove the transmission oil pan.
Disconnect the Governor Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor connector.
Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
Measure the resistance of the Sensor Ground circuit between the Transmission
Solenoid Assembly connector (transmission side) and the Governor Pressure/
Transmission Temperature Sensor connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
All
Yes
→
No
→
Replace the Transmission Solenoid Assembly in accordance with
the Service Information.
Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.

If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair.
All
Repair
Replace the Governor Pressure/Transmission Temperature Sensor
in accordance with the Service Information.
Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Transmission Solenoid Assembly harness connector.
Disconnect the PCM harness connectors.
Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary
Turn the ignition on.
Measure the voltage between ground and the 5-volt Supply circuit in the Transmis-
sion Solenoid Assembly harness connector.
Is the voltage below 0.5 volt?
All
Yes
→
Test Complete.
No
→

Turn the ignition off.
Repair the 5-volt Supply circuit for a short to voltage.
Reconnect all harness connectors except the Transmission Solenoid Assembly har-
ness connector.
Turn the ignition on.
Measure the voltage of the 5-volt Supply circuit in the Transmission Solenoid
Assembly harness connector.
Is the voltage above 4.8 volts?
All
Yes
→
The repair is complete.
Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.
No
→
Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accor-
dance with the Service Information.
Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.
