Dodge Viper SRT-10 (ZB). Manual — part 40
(4) Lower parking brake lever handle to released
position.
(5) Grasp parking brake lever output cable by
hand and pull upward. Continue pulling on cable
until a screwdriver (pin punch or appropriate pin)
can be inserted through hole in left side of lever
mechanism, behind sector gear and out hole in right
side of lever (Fig. 58). This will lock parking brake
automatic adjustment mechanism in place and take
tension off parking brake cables.
(6) Remove both rear parking brake cables from
parking brake cable equalizer (Fig. 59).
(7) Release parking brake cable housing from body
as follows:
(a) Place 12-point box end of 13 mm wrench over
parking brake cable retainer (Fig. 60).
(b) Push wrench onto retainer until retainer fin-
gers are collapsed.
(c) Push on end of parking brake cable housing,
pushing it through wrench and out of vehicle body.
(8) Raise vehicle. (Refer to LUBRICATION &
MAINTENANCE/HOISTING - STANDARD PROCE-
DURE)
(9) Remove tire and wheel assembly from vehicle.
(Refer to 22 - TIRES/WHEELS - REMOVAL)
(10) Unclip ABS wheel speed sensor from parking
brake cable.
(11) Grasp parking brake cable between pivot
wheel and apply lever and pull outward until enough
slack is present to remove cable from pivot wheel.

(12) Remove cable end from apply lever on caliper
(Fig. 61).
(13) Remove cable from caliper bracket holding
cable housing (Fig. 61).
(14) Remove
screws
from
three
cable
routing
clamps (Fig. 62).
(15) Remove cable.
INSTALLATION
(1) Install cable through framework as shown (Fig.
62).
(2) Insert lever end of cable through interior access
hole in tunnel area (Fig. 62). Slide cable housing into
hole until retainer snaps into place in body.
(3) Position three cable routing clamps and install
screws (Fig. 62). Tighten screws to 10 N·m (90 in.
lbs.) torque.
(4) Insert parking brake caliper end of cable
through caliper bracket and slide cable housing into
caliper bracket (Fig. 61).
(5) Install cable end into apply lever on caliper
(Fig. 61).
(6) Grasp parking brake cable between cable hous-
ing and apply lever and pull outward until enough
slack is present to install cable onto pivot wheel.
Once on wheel, push any extra cable back into cable
housing.
(7) Clip ABS wheel speed sensor to parking brake
cable.

(8) Install wheel and tire assembly (Refer to 22 -
TIRES/WHEELS - INSTALLATION). Progressively
tighten wheel mounting nuts in proper sequence to
122 N·m (90 ft. lbs.) torque.
(9) Lower vehicle to a level where rear tires just
clear floor.
(10) Install parking brake cables into equalizer on
parking brake lever output cable (Fig. 59).
WARNING: THE AUTOMATIC ADJUSTING FEATURE
OF THIS PARKING BRAKE LEVER CONTAINS A
CLOCKSPRING LOADED TO APPROXIMATELY 19
POUNDS. DO NOT RELEASE THE AUTOMATIC
ADJUSTER LOCKOUT DEVICE UNLESS THE PARK-
ING BRAKE CABLES AND EQUALIZER ARE CON-
NECTED TO THE LEVER OUTPUT CABLE. KEEP
HANDS OUT OF AUTOMATIC ADJUSTER SECTOR
AND PAWL AREA. FAILURE TO OBSERVE CAUTION
IN HANDLING THIS MECHANISM COULD LEAD TO
SERIOUS INJURY.
(11) Ensure that parking brake cables are correctly
installed on equalizer and aligned with cable track
on parking brake lever.
(12) Keeping hands clear of automatic adjuster
sector and pawl area, firmly grasp screwdriver (pin
punch or locking pin if a new lever has been
installed) installed in lever mechanism (Fig. 58), then
quickly remove it from parking brake lever mecha-
nism. This action allows parking brake lever mecha-
nism to automatically take up any slack.
(13) Cycle parking brake lever once to position
parking brake cables, then return lever its released
position.
(14) Check rear wheels of vehicle. They should
rotate freely without dragging with lever in released
position.
(15) Lower vehicle.
(16) Fully apply parking brake lever.
(17) Install center console. (Refer to 23 - BODY/IN-
TERIOR/CENTER CONSOLE - INSTALLATION)
(18) Remove blocks from tire and wheel assem-
blies.
CALIPER - PARKING BRAKE
REMOVAL
NOTE: Review all Warnings and Cautions. (Refer to
5 - BRAKES - WARNING)
(1) Block tire and wheel assemblies so vehicle does
not move once vehicle parking brake lever released.
(2) Fully apply parking brake lever.
(3) Remove center console. (Refer to 23 - BODY/
INTERIOR/CENTER CONSOLE - REMOVAL)
(4) Lower parking brake lever handle to released
position.
(5) Grasp parking brake lever output cable by
hand and pull upward. Continue pulling on cable
until a screwdriver (pin punch or appropriate pin)
can be inserted through hole in left side of lever
mechanism, behind sector gear and out hole in right
side of lever (Fig. 58). This will lock parking brake
automatic adjustment mechanism in place and take
tension off parking brake cables.
(6) Raise vehicle. (Refer to LUBRICATION &
MAINTENANCE/HOISTING - STANDARD PROCE-
DURE)
(7) Remove wheel and tire assembly. (Refer to 22 -
TIRES/WHEELS - REMOVAL)
(8) Grasp parking brake cable between pivot wheel
and apply lever and pull outward until enough slack
is present to remove cable from pivot wheel.
(9) Remove cable end from apply lever on caliper
(Fig. 61).
(10) Remove cable from caliper bracket holding
cable housing (Fig. 61).
(11) Remove two bolts attaching parking brake cal-
iper to knuckle (Fig. 63).

DISASSEMBLY
NOTE: The only serviceable parts of the parking
brake caliper are the guide pin bushing compo-
nents (Fig. 65). Use the following procedure to ser-
vice these items.
(1) Remove parking brake caliper from vehicle and
remove parking brake shoes from caliper. (Refer to 5
-
BRAKES/PARKING
BRAKE/CALIPER
-
REMOVAL)
