(4) Close the hood and verify the proper fit and
tighten the rear body bolts to 28 N·m (21 ft. lbs.).
(5) Open the hood and tighten the front bolts to 28
N·m (21 ft. lbs.).
(6) Install hood hinge support cylinder. (Refer to
23 - BODY/HOOD/SUPPORT CYLINDER - INSTAL-
LATION)
(7) Install the cowl screen panel. (Refer to 23 -
BODY/EXTERIOR/COWL

REMOVAL
(1) Raise hood.
(2) Remove bolts attaching hinges to hood.
(3) With the aid of a helper, remove hood from
vehicle.
INSTALLATION
(1) Position hood on hinges using the molded fea-
tures on the hood to align the hinge.
(2) Install bolts and tighten to 12 N·m (9 ft. lbs.).
(3) Inspect hood for proper alignment and adjust if
required. (Refer to 23 - BODY/HOOD/HOOD -
ADJUSTMENTS)

(1) If hood is low in relation to the rear of fender,
insert shims between hinge and body. (Refer to 23 -
BODY/BODY
STRUCTURE/GAP AND
FLUSH

SPECIFICATIONS)
(2) Adjust hood bumper in or out to adjust hood-
to-fender height alignment.
(3) Adjust the hood latch as necessary. Tighten the
nuts to 12 N·m (9 ft. lbs.).
(4) Align the latch striker so that striker enters
the latch squarely and without binding.
HOOD AIR CLEANER SEAL
REMOVAL
(1) Peal seal from the hood panel to remove. (Fig.
3)
INSTALLATION
(1) Clean hood panel with a suitable adhesive
remover.
(2) Remove tape liner and position the new seal
into place.

REMOVAL
(1) Using a grease pencil or equivalent, lightly
mark the outline of the latch to assist installation.
(2) Remove the nuts attaching the latch to the
frame assembly. (Fig. 4)
(3) Disconnect the hood latch cable from the
release lever. (Fig. 5)
(4) Remove latch from vehicle.

INSTALLATION
(1) Connect the hood latch cable to the release
lever.
(2) Install the hood latch and align with marks
made previously.
(3) Install and tighten the nuts to 12 N·m (9 ft.
lbs.)
(4) Check the hood fit and adjust if required.

LATCH RELEASE HANDLE
REMOVAL
(1) Remove the hood latch. (Refer to 23 - BODY/
HOOD/HOOD

(2) Remove the screws and remove the handle
assembly from the bumper beam. (Fig. 6)
INSTALLATION
(1) Route the cable from the lower fascia opening
to the latch.
(2) Attach the handle to the bumper beam and
install the screws.
(3) Install the hood latch. (Refer to 23 - BODY/
HOOD/HOOD

SILENCER PAD
REMOVAL
(1) Open the hood and remove the bolts and dis-
connect the ground wires. (Fig. 7)
(2) Remove the push pin fasteners and remove the
silencer pad. (Fig. 8)
INSTALLATION
(1) Install the silencer pad and install the push
pin fasteners.
(2) Install the ground wires and install the bolts.

REMOVAL
(1) Open the hood and support.
NOTE: The gas props have an integral secondary
service
position.
This
wider
open
position
is
achieved by physically pushing the front of the
hood up lightly.
(2) Using a small flat bladed tool, or equivalent,
release the retaining clips while pulling the ball
socket away from the ball stud. (Fig. 9)
NOTE: Lift the clips only enough to release the ball
studs. (Fig. 10)
(3) Remove the support cylinder.
INSTALLATION
(1) Make sure the retaining clips are seated into
the ball socket fully.
(2) Install the support cylinder over the ball studs
with the thin end connected to the body side of the
hinge and the retaining clips snapping into place.
