AMPLIFIER
DESCRIPTION
The audio system includes a separate audio power
amplifier. The amplifier is a seven channel unit and
is rated at 310 watts (RMS @ 10% THD). The ampli-
fier is located below the passenger seat.
OPERATION
The power amplifier electronically increases the
frequency response of the normal audio signal output
from the radio amplifier in order to improve the
acoustic performance of the speakers.
The amplifier receives audio signal inputs for
speaker channels from the radio, then sends ampli-
fied audio outputs through seven separate channels
with dedicated feed and return circuits to the indi-
vidual speakers.
The amplifier operates on battery current received
through a fuse in the Power Distribution Center
(PDC).

REMOVAL
(1) Disconnect and isolate the battery negative
cable.
(2) Remove passenger seat (Refer to 23 - BODY/
SEATS/SEAT - REMOVAL).
(3) Disconnect wire harness connectors (Fig. 1).
(4) Remove mounting fasteners and remove ampli-
fier.
INSTALLATION
(1) Position amplifier into place.
(2) Install mounting fasteners. Tighten to 12 N·m
(105 in. lbs.)
(3) Connect wire harness connectors.
(4) Install passenger seat (Refer to 23 - BODY/
SEATS/SEAT - INSTALLATION).
(5) Connect battery negative cable.
ANTENNA
DESCRIPTION
The antenna is integral to the windshield. The
antenna attaches to a single terminal wire that is
part of the antenna module.
OPERATION
The windshield antenna sends a signal to the
antenna module and it reduces any RFI received in
the signal.
DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - ANTENNA
Any diagnosis of the Audio system should
begin with the use of a scan tool and the appro-
priate Diagnostic Service Manual.
Refer to the appropriate wiring information.
WARNING:

CAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIR-
BAG DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL
INJURY.
(1) Check the following electrical connections:
• Antenna lead connection at the radio
• Windshield antenna lead connector at front of
the instrument panel (Fig. 2).
• Three antenna amplifier connectors.
(2) Using an ohmmeter check for continuity at the
antenna module:
• Antenna module lead connector to the radio
antenna lead connector
• Antenna module lead connector to the connector
at the front of the instrument panel
• Antenna module bracket to a good ground
(3) Using an voltmeter, turn ignition switch to ON
position, check for battery voltage at the antenna
module connector.
(4) Move the vehicle outside and at least 10 meters
(35 feet) from the nearest building. Turn ignition
switch to the accessory position, turn radio ON, with
a very weak AM station ON. Very weak is defined as
a station the radio will not seek to. You should hear
background noise, but still be able to understand the
program material.
(a) Disconnect antenna lead connector at the
front of the instrument panel. There should be a
great drop in reception quality. If this occurs, the
antenna and antenna module are OK. Using an
ohmmeter, check for continuity of antenna. Place
one probe on antenna lead and the other at the
end of the antenna. If no continuity, repair using
Mopar rear window defogger repair kit or equiva-
lent (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/HEATED GLASS/
WINDSHIELD
GRID
-
STANDARD
PROCEDURE). Check for continuity after repair. If
not OK, verify by connecting a 1.5 meters (5 ft.)
piece of wire to the terminal and holding it verti-
cal. Check for improvement in radio reception qual-
ity. If OK, replace windshield. If not OK, go to Step
b.

ule.
REMOVAL
The antenna is integral to the windshield. For ser-
vice procedures, (Refer to 23 - BODY/STATIONARY
GLASS/WINDSHIELD - REMOVAL).
ANTENNA MODULE
DESCRIPTION
The antenna module is an electromagnetic circuit
component designed to capture and enhance RF
(Radio Frequency) signals in both the AM and FM
broadcast bands. The antenna module is mounted
under the right front corner of the instrument panel.
The module is grounded through the mounting
bracket and fastener. The module has a one wire
electrical connector that connects to the integral
radio antenna, located in the windshield. There is an
electrical connector for battery voltage and a coax
cable connector.
OPERATION
The antenna module receives both AM and FM
radio signals supplied by the windshield integral
radio antenna system and selectively amplifies them.
The amplified signal is then sent through the coax
cable to the radio input.
DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - ANTENNA
MODULE
Any diagnosis of the Audio system should
begin with the use of a scan tool and the appro-
priate Diagnostic Service Manual.
Refer to the appropriate wiring information.
