INSPECTION
CAUTION:
I
Carefully monitor brake fluid level at master cylinder.
I
Use new brake fluid “DOT 3”.
I
Be careful not to splash brake fluid on painted areas; it
may cause paint damage. If brake fluid is splashed on
paint areas, wash it away with water immediately.
I
Depress pedal slowly when raising front brake pressure.
I
Check rear brake pressure 2 seconds after front brake
pressure reaches specified value.
I
Disconnect harness connectors from ABS actuator relay
box before checking.
1.
Connect tool to air bleeders of front and rear brakes on either
LH or RH side.
2.
Bleed air from the tool.
3.
Check rear brake pressure by depressing brake pedal
(increasing front brake pressure).
Unit: kPa (kg/cm

, psi)
Applied pressure (Front brake)
D
1
7,355 (75, 1,067)
Output pressure (Rear brake)
D
2
5,100 - 5,492 (52 - 56, 739 - 796)
If output pressure is out of specifications, replace master cyl-
inder assembly (built-in type).
4.
Bleed air after disconnecting the tool. Refer to “Bleeding Brake
System”, BR-7.
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION (Built-in type)
Always replace together with master cylinder as an assembly.

If necessary, adjust brake pedal free height.
1.
Loosen lock nut and adjust pedal free height by turning brake
booster input rod. Then tighten lock nut.
Make sure that tip of input rod stays inside of clevis.
2.
Loosen lock nut and adjust clearance “C
1
” and “C
2
” with stop
lamp switch and ASCD cancel switch respectively. Then
tighten lock nuts.
3.
Check pedal free play.
Make sure that stop lamps go off when pedal is released.
4.
Check brake pedal’s depressed height while engine is running.
If depressed height is below specifications, check brake sys-
tem. If leaks, accumulation of air or any damage to compo-
nents (master cylinder, etc.) are found, make necessary
repairs.

CAUTION:
I
Be careful not to splash brake fluid on painted areas; it
may cause paint damage. If brake fluid is splashed on
painted areas, wash it away with water immediately.
I
In the case of brake fluid leakage from the master cylinder,
disassemble the cylinder. Then check piston cups for
deformation or scratches and replace necessary parts.
1.
Connect a vinyl tube to air bleeder valve.
2.
Drain brake fluid from each air bleeder valve, depressing brake
pedal to empty fluid from master cylinder.
3.
Remove brake pipe flare nuts.
4.
Remove master cylinder mounting nuts.
