INSPECTION START

CHECK EXHAUST SYSTEM.
Check exhaust pipes and muffler for
leaks.

Repair or replace exhaust
system.

CHECK VACUUM SOURCE TO EGR
VALVE.

1. Lift up drive wheels.
2. Start engine and warm it up to

normal operating temperature.

3. Disconnect vacuum hose to

EGR valve.

4. Check for vacuum at hoses.

Vacuum should not exist at
idle.

5. Check for vacuum when revving

engine from idle up to 3,000
rpm using the following method.

I

Select “EGRC SOLENOID
VALVE” in “ACTIVE TEST” mode
with CONSULT-II and turn the
solenoid valve “ON”.

Vacuum should exist when rev-
ving engine.

1. Warm engine up to normal oper-

ating temperature.

2. Turn ignition switch “OFF”.
3. Lift up drive wheels.
4. Start engine (TCS switch “OFF”)

and shift to “1” position.

5. Disconnect vacuum hose from

EGR valve. Check vacuum at
idle.
Vacuum should not exist at
idle.

6. Rev up engine speed from idle

up to 3,000 rpm.
Vacuum should exist when
revving engine.

CHECK COMPONENT
(EGR valve).
Refer to “COMPONENT
INSPECTION”, EC-430.

Replace EGR valve.

CHECK VACUUM HOSE.
Check vacuum hose for clogging, cracks
or improper connection or misconnecting.
Refer to “Vacuum Hose Drawing”, EC-19.

CHECK COMPONENT
(EGRC-solenoid valve).

1. Turn ignition switch “ON”.
2. Turn EGRC-solenoid valve “ON”

and “OFF” in “ACTIVE TEST”
mode with CONSULT-II and
check operating sound.

1. Turn ignition “OFF”.
2. Disconnect ECM harness con-

nector.

3. Connect suitable jumping wire

between ECM terminal

4. Check operating sound of

EGRC-solenoid valve.

solenoid valve or repair
circuit.

CHECK COMPONENT

(EVAP canister).
Refer to “COMPONENT INSPECTION” on

Replace EVAP canister.

CHECK VACUUM HOSE.
Check vacuum hose into EVAP canister
for clogging, cracks and improper connec-
tion.

Repair it.

CHECK COMPONENT
(EGRC-BPT valve).
Refer to “COMPONENT INSPECTION” on
next page.

Replace EGRC-BPT valve.

Check resistance of EGR temperature
sensor. Refer to EC-289.

Perform “TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS FOR
INTERMITTENT INCIDENT”, EC-117.

EGR valve

I

Apply vacuum to EGR valve vacuum port with a hand vacuum
pump.

EGR valve spring should lift.

Check for sticking.
If NG, repair or replace EGR valve.

Check air passage continuity.

Perform “EGRC SOLENOID VALVE” in “ACTIVE TEST”
mode.
